Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla is enjoying her life as a mother to her one-year-old daughter, Isabella.
She gave birth to her first child with Robin Padilla last November 14, 2016, and has been a full-time mom since then.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with the TV host at Sarah Lahbati’s baby shower last January 7, in Rockwell, Makati.
Mariel brought Isabella to the event.
When asked how the mother-daughter tandem has been doing, Mariel happily answered, “Loved!
“We’re very, very happy that [Isabella’s] growing up well.”
Mariel then enumerated the milestones of her daughter aside from being able to walk on her own.
“She can say hi. She says ‘Mama.’ Madaldal. Sobrang madaldal. Makulit!”
BEING A MOM. On Instagram, Mariel didn’t hide the fact that one of her first challenges as a mother was having low milk supply.
But Mariel underlined to PEP.ph that she “fought hard” so she could breastfeed Isabella.
“That’s why I got fat. My weight gain is because I didn’t have a lot of milk, and I ate my way through the milk.”
The first-time celebrity mom noticed that whenever she cut down her food intake, her milk supply would decrease.
“That’s what worked for me. Even if I wasn’t hungry, I would eat, just so I would have milk.”
Mariel was proud that she successfully managed a year of breastfeeding her daughter, and it was “purely, not mix feed.”
Mariel had another concern: “Isabella was colicky," which was defined by BabyCenter.com as an "uncontrollable crying in an otherwise healthy baby."
The Kapamilya star continued, "She cried the whole three months. She didn’t do anything but cry. As in cry to death!
She admitted, “I was not prepared for that. Hindi yun yung na-picture ko na motherhood!”
How did Mariel deal with it?
The former Kapamilya host said, “Wala ka naming choice, e! Kailangan, di ba? Alangan naman sabihin, ‘Tumigil ka!’ Hindi naman siya titigil.”
Though her first year as a mother had been a whirlwind of emotions, Mariel didn’t hesitate to say that motherhood is “the best.”
She told PEP.ph, “Iba yung motherhood. It’s the best!”
Her favorite thing about it?
