Where has the time gone?

The kids of GMA-7 actress Carmina Villarroel and husband Zoren Legaspi are almost 18 years old.

Cassy and Mavy celebrated their 17th birthday last January 6.

In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Carmina narrated how her parenting style has evolved now that their twins are in their teens.

She said, "It's really different from being them being a toddler now that they're teenagers.

"Siguro what's nice lang is because parang maganda na yung foundation nila, e.

"Kumbaga, I started early, you know, guiding them, disciplining them, so parang ngayon, it's just more of constant reminders all the time."

Communication and involvement are two important tips Carmina would give other parents when it comes to guiding their teens.

She elaborated, "I think what's important now is open communication, communicating to your kids talaga.

"Talking to them, asking them about school, about life, about their friends, sports.

"What's important to me is me being involved in their lives. That's the best tip siguro na mabibigay ko."

No matter how busy she is, she wants to know what Cassy and Mavy are doing and where they are.

"I think kailangan maging involved ka.

"They have to feel, aside from the love and the care, they have to feel na they're really important and you're really involved.

"So even if I'm at work, ano ako, parang I know where they are, alam ko ang ginagawa nila.

"That's why we have phones, we have a group chat so walang excuse na hindi kayo nag-uusap or busy pareho. Hindi, e.

"I'm just thankful na they're super good kids, super nice kids talaga."

Carmina along with the country's most stylish women such as Heart Evangelista-Escudero, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Mika Martinez, Tootsy Angara, Mari Jasmine, and fashion bloggers Nicole Andersson, Laureen Uy, and Tricia Gosingtian-Gabunada were the celebrity VIP guests at the opening of Longchamp's new boutique in Rustan's Makati last Tuesday, March 13.

CARMINA AS A MOM. Carmina is a good friend to her kids, but she doesn't make them forget that she's a mother to them first.

The Kambal Karibal actress explained, "I want to believe na ganun ako, not all the time though.

"Kasi importante din naman na you really act as a parent.

"Secondary na lang yung pagiging friend kasi marami naman silang friends.

"Isa lang yung nanay nila, so ako pa rin dapat yun, e, so yun ang talagang role ko, mommy muna and then second, friend na nila."

Is the 42-year-old celebrity mom strict?

"Medyo, kailangan e.

"Ako talagang gusto ko yung mga magulang ngayon maging strict para disiplinahin talaga yung anak nila, e."

Still, Carmina also said that it's important to find a good balance between being a strict parent and being a lenient one.

The Kapuso actress explained, "Gitna ako, e. May mga times na super strict, may mga times naman na very lenient na, 'Sige go!'

"It really depends on the situation, depends sa kung ano yung ipinapaalam nila.

"Depende talaga, e, so kailangan talaga maging balanced.

"Yung pagiging nanay naman talaga dapat ganun, e, balanced. You really have to understand your kids.

"Kasi nanggaling din naman ako diyan, naging 17 din naman ako. So alam ko yung mga dapat naman nilang pagdaanan.

"But like I said, I always tell them na iba na yung generation ngayon so parang I always tell them, as their mom, masyado lang talaga akong nerbiyoso at overprotective."

Carmina admitted that there are times when she has to reject her twins' requests, but makes sure to explain to them her decision.

She told PEP.ph, "When I say no, I really make sure na I explain why.

"Hindi lang yung bastang sinabi ko lang na wala, hindi puwede. I give them reasons and they understand naman, e, so yun.
