Wendy Valdez and her husband Normann Garcia celebrated their son Seth's first birthday last June 11.

Wendy Valdez opened up for the first time about her life as a new mom.

Last June 14, the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate revealed that her one-year-old son, Seth, has spina bifida.

According to U.S.-based site spinabifidaassociation.org, spina bifida "happens when a baby is in the womb and the spinal column does not close all of the way."

Seth also has mild hydrocephalus or an abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain.

Wendy posted a video on Instagram to share how her family has been coping with their situation.

She began, "When God blessed us with Seth, I was devastated to found out he has spina bifida.

"[It's] a condition that may not allow him to walk, urinate, or poop properly on his own.

"His hip bone is not in the right position, and he has mild hydrocephalus—all cost by an opening in his spine while he was still in the womb.

"Most diagnosis we got every check-up were heartbreaking to hear, but every ultrasound, Seth would moved inside of me as if letting us know how excited he is to live.

"I remember how I cried like I've never been to the Lord when I found out.

"It was like someone died.

"My dreams for him and me were the ones that actually did--running, walking, climbing mountains with him like in the movies or other seemingly perfect scenarios that I have pictured for our family.

"But life is never like a fairytale."

But Wendy and her husband, Normann Garcia, kept their hopes up.

She continued, "The truth is that this world is full of broken bodies because of sickness and disease; broken hearts from pain and hurt and selfishness and sin.

"Constant happiness is never certain,

"Only God's presence in our life is sure…

"On June 11, 2017, Emmanuel Seth Garcia was born.

"He immediately underwent an operation to close his spine and go through surgery on his cyst.

"Seth spent a month in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).

"We did what we can do to manage his condition after that."

Wendy and Normann's lives centered around multiple visits to the hospital.

On Seth's second month, he wore a harness to align his hips.

He then wore braces after that, "In the beginning, I was always afraid something is wrong with him when he cries.

"I'd get torn whenever doctors would say that his hip and head [were] not getting any better.

"I cried most of the time to God for help.

"I know He hears me, and He is sustaining us one day at a time doing what we can do and trusting Him for tomorrow.

"My dreams for Seth may have been shattered, but I know God's dreams for him remains.

"Seth is beautiful for us no matter what. A gift from the Lord."

My son has spina bifida. 4months in my womb when we found out, and we were told so many negative statements that really discouraged us. Someone said that when Seth comes out, our calvary (kalbaryo) will begin. But Jesus walked with us, and will continue to do so until the end. To everyone who prayed with us for this one whole year since I gave birth. Thank you. Here is a video that we made, to remind us of God's greatness in the life of Seth, and to give you an update of everything that went through in that journey so far. I will post the whole video on facebook. Just keep swiping to watch the it all here on instagram. ???? John 16:33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage--I have conquered the world." #spinabifidastrong #spinabifidawarrior #Happy1stBirthdaySeth #SethTurns1 Thank you Jershon of @niceprintphoto for helping us with the editing.????

Through profound faith and trust in the Lord, Wendy and Normann did their best to help their son.

She confessed, "I don't know how things will work out, but somehow I see the hand of God in what continues to happen—not just with Seth's healing, but more so in our hearts and our faith.

"Our life now are not like most people's lives, but I know it has purpose…

"I may never understand the Lord for allowing this to happen, but I know God is good with whatever He allows to happen in my life, in my family, and in the life of my son.

"In the Bible, God did not promise us a trial-free or trouble-life. What He promised is that with Him in our lives, we can overcome  any trial we face.

"Today, Seth's head is seemingly in the safe size. So, we would probably not need any operation for that.

"His hips are finally in the right position after almost a year in braces, and his clubfoot is somehow corrected…

"I know we still have a long road to walk through, but don't we all do?

"We are excited to find out what else Seth may do in the future and to let him know that we're always proud of him.

"Please continue to pray for Seth and our family. To God be the glory."

Wendy and Normann celebrated Seth's first birthday last June 11.
