Karla Estrada on letting sons Daniel and Carlito live independently: "Nung nakita ko na na kaya nilang madapa at bumangon sa sarili nilang pagkakamali, that's the time na puwede mo na silang pakawalan."

Karla Estrada's parenting style has changed now that two of her children are in their 20s.

The host has four kids: Daniel Padilla, 23, her son with actor Rommel Padilla; Jose Carlito or JC, 20, her son with singer Naldy Padilla; Margaret or Magui, 16, her daughter with former Quezon City Councilor Mike Planas, and the youngest, Carmella, 11, her daughter with a non-showbiz guy named PJ.

In a vlog she posted last May 25, Karla revealed that her two sons have been living "independently" at their home located right beside Karla's house.

"Ang advantage naman, of course, exercise na 'yan ng independence nila. At para din sa ating mga ka-Queen Moms na matanggap natin na hindi forever kasama ang mga anak natin sa buhay natin."

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press on Tuesday, September 4, Karla talked about the changes in their household since her two boys decided to move out.

"Kasi binata na sila, e, and I have dalagas in the house. So okay na din na medyo talagang humiwalay na siya pero nandiyan pa rin siya sa tabi ko.

"Nilagyan ko lang ng pader para hindi naman siya mukhang parang...'tapos may gate lang dun naman na parang pass through."

When should a parent learn to let go of her kids?

Karla answered, "Meron talagang certain age kasi na puwede mong pakawalan, e.

"Speaking as a mother of four, gusto ko sa mga anak ko, katulad kay Daniel at kay Carlito, ang mga boys ko, nung nakita ko na na kaya nilang madapa at bumangon sa sarili nilang pagkakamali, that's the time na puwede mo na silang pakawalan.

"Ibig sabihin, kaya na nilang humarap sa buhay."

HOW DOES SHE DE-STRESS

The 43-year-old Kapamilya thinks of stress as a choice.

And if she wants to avoid it, her children are her stress busters.

The Kapamilya host elaborated, "Every time I wake up, at paglabas ko ng room, hahanapin ko na muna yung mga anak ko.

"Well, of course, ngayong may pasok, I see to it na nakakain, may baon, naihatid ng drivers so marami kang aalalahanin.

"With Daniel, kasi bumukod na siya pero sa tabi lang ng bahay ko... nagpagawa ako ng bahay for him sa tabi ko so kailangan ko siyang tawirin and make sure na nakatulog na siya 'cause I know every day, meron din siyang work.

"Itong mga bagay na 'to, these are the things that makes me calm every morning before going to work."

But when she's really stressed out, she turns to music and buffet.

Laughing, she explained, "Kasi may pang-buffet naman! Ini-invite ko yung mga friends ko.

"A glass of wine, and actually to listen sa lahat ng old-time favorite music.

"The entire family is mga musikero. I started singing since I was nine so buong buhay ko, ang nakatulong sa akin mas madalas ay hindi yung advice sa akin ng nanay ko kundi yung mensahe ng bawat music na gusto ko pakinggan."

On a more serious note, Karla said that even a simple family gathering helps ease her stress.

"Ang perfect ng moment kapag buo na 'tapos nasa room ko lang, manonood lang kami ng movie.

"Sobrang simple, walang gastos, wala kailangan na extravagant na moves.

"I've realized na yung mga bagay na nagpapasaya, e, yung mga simpleng bagay talaga."
