Liza Diño gives an update on baby plans with husband Ice Seguerra. The couple will undergo in vitro fertilization—where the eggs will be harvested from Ice, the sperm will be from a donor, and Liza will carry the baby.

Liza Diño and Ice Seguerra have decided to push through with their plan of having their own child.

According to Liza, her husband Ice—who identifies as a trans man—already consulted a doctor last August 30.

"Naku! Sasabihin ni Ice, kinuwento ko na naman," said Liza, who chairs the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

"Basta yung check-up niya, for the ano, kung fertile or what, oo. May ganoon di ba? Magha-harvest na siya.

"At least, we’re making small steps. Iba yung completely na-push back namin, at ngayon, kahit papano may nangyayari na. May nagsimula na.

"And now, gagawin na sa November yung procedure."

The couple initially planned going through in vitro fertilization in 2016, but pushed it back when they both took over government posts. Liza headed FDCP, while Ice became the head of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Here's the process: Ice's eggs will be harvested, and Liza will be the surrogate.

The actress shared the next steps after Ice's eggs have been harvested, "Oo, itatago 'tapos ipri-freeze. Meron dito, may mga facilities na nagpri-freeze."

She also said they have yet to choose a sperm donor from a cryobank (sperm bank).

"Maghahanap pa lang. Pagdating naman doon, kailangan namang malaman yung availability ko for [surrogacy].

"Kapag naayos na namin yung schedule, ano na, gagawin na yung proseso. Pero sigurado na siyang mangyayari."

Liza and Ice are both looking forward to this new chapter in their lives.

She remarked, "Natuwa naman ako kasi sobrang excited talaga siya. Ako naman, talagang gusto kong hanapan ng lugar kasi siyempre, I wanna make sure na we do it right.

"Kasi, di ba? Ang mahal niya, e, di ba? So kahit papano, mabalanse ko talaga yung oras."

Liza said they also need to work doubly hard to prepare for the financial aspects having an IVF baby would entail.

"Kasi ano, siyempre, di ba pareho kaming nasa gobyerno last year?

"So, talagang wala kaming ipon. Kasi ang suweldo dito sa gobyerno minus the tax.

"I mean, meron kaming lifestyle na na-maintain na, before we became government workers. So nag-suffer yun at ngayon pa lang ulit bumabalik lahat ng mga show ni Ice."

Ice resigned from his NYC post in March 2018.

Liza continued, "So at least, sabi ko nga, eto yung ganda rin nitong may isang private person sa atin, no? Yung hindi na kami nag-iisip na tungkol sa gagastusin.

"So yun. Nag-iipon naman, ah, kasi malaki [ang kailangan], e. Mga one million plus, e."

The one-million-peso amount is just for the IVF procedure alone. Liza added they also have other household expenses to think of.

"Kasi ngayon, nagbabayad kami ng bahay. Nagbabayad kami ng kotse. I mean, di ba, may mga maintenance cost na kami."

Liza has a daughter named Amara.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with Liza at the press conference of the film Alpha, The Right To Kill, which was also the send-off for award-winning director Brillante Mendoza, who will grace the 66th San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, from September 21 to 29.
