GMA-7 actress Rich Asuncion is about to give birth to her first baby with husband, professional rugby player Benjamin Mudie.
On Tuesday, November 13, Rich shared on Instagram her thoughts about becoming a mom.
The Kapuso actress wrote, "Oh the struggles of being pregnant... Good thing I have a husband who was always there for me! Well, mostly just for the fun part...
"It has been one hell of a ride, and we are now waiting and waiting because it could be anytime soon.
"People say I will miss being pregnant, but I honestly cannot say that now, hehe.
"Although, the thought of having a little family of my own makes me tremendously happy.
"Sharing with you my experience through this video @benjmudie fondly calls ‘Rich’s Greatest Mits’ (vomits). #mudsquad"
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), Rich said she is now on her 37th week of pregnancy, and she is very excited to finally meet her baby girl.
Rich said she wanted a boy for their first baby, but her husband was ecstatic to find out that their panganay is a girl.
She said, "If I’m completely honest, I wanted a boy. So I guess daddy won this round because he wanted a girl first.
"He thinks they’re a better example to the younger siblings."
When asked about the first time she heard their baby's heartbeat, Rich said the experience was definitely life-changing.
She recalled, "It was also the first I saw her through ultrasound. It was surreal.
"It was the moment it really sank into me that we are having a baby. I looked at her in the monitor and my heart just melted.
"I started crying. She was sucking her thumb, and looked so comfortable.
"Gave me a greater sense of purpose to take responsibility and care for her. It's a moment I’ll never forget."
The Starstruck alumna also narrated some of the biggest challenges she endured on her first pregnancy.
She said, "Morning sickness during the first trimester which [was] even more difficult because we’ve been traveling a lot this year.
"And, of course, the changes in my body like the stretch marks and such.
"There’s a lot of things you don’t think of until you experience it.
"Like mobilizing from lying down to standing up or bending over to pick things up off the ground."
One thing she misses doing the most is being able to hug her husband Ben.
"The biggest one that stands out is my husband not being able to cuddle or hold me like he normally does.
"He might be macho, but he always hugs and kisses me and I miss the hugs."
Rich feels blessed since she did not encounter any problems with her pregnancy.
The actress also noted that this experience opened her eyes on the importance of keeping an active and healthy lifestyle.
"Luckily, I didn’t have any problems with my pregnancy although this last trimester, the doctor told me to take it easy on food intake because I was gaining weight fast.
"I’m not complaining though. As a byproduct of being pregnant, my diet has become a lot healthier.
"Mainly veggies, meat and more natural foods. At five months, I was the same weight as before I was pregnant."
Rich added, "I lost a lot of body fat and it opened my eyes to how poor my diet was before.
"It's been a blessing in disguise because for a while now, I’ve wanted to lose weight and take better care of my body.
"This experience has rejuvenated me in that respect."
Rich is thankful for having her husband Ben support her throughout her pregnancy journey.
"I think here in the Philippines, we overdo it when it comes to pregnancy.
"No walking up stairs, only specific foods, et cetera, the list goes on.
"Ben would always encourage me to be active like go to the gym or take a lot of walks to strengthen my body, 'You need to be strong to give birth!'
"Most importantly, he would always assure me that I am not alone in this journey.
"I’m truly lucky to have someone like him."
