Maggie Wilson does not want to raise a spoiled child.
And to her son Connor about independence, she decided not to hire a nanny for him.
"I didn't grow up with help. I grew up very middle class, and so did Vic," Maggie told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) back in an event last January.
Vic is her husband Victor Consunji, a business tycoon.
Maggie continued, "He grew up in the States with his mom and his stepdad, and they were also a middle-class family.
"Yes, here in the Philippines, we have a lot of help, but we want to make sure that he knows how to do things on his own.
"It's very, very important."
Maggie and Victor have also been bringing Connor to their workplace.
"We show him where I work, we show him where Vic works, so he understands that one day he’s going to have to do things on his own."
MAGGIE WILSON'S PARENTING STYLE
When asked what kind of mom Maggie is, she was quick to answer, "I'm not protective...
"I'm also not the kind of mom na, 'Oh my god, it's dirty! Don't touch that!' or 'You need to wash your hands.'
"I think dirt is so important to kids because it gives them a stronger immune system.
"We push Connor to be more adventurous."
Maggie and Victor also want their son to be more outgoing.
She remarked, "Connor, he's a very emotional kid. He gets scared easily.
"For example, if he's put in a situation that he’s not comfortable in or if he needs to do something he’s not comfortable with, he much rather not engage or not do it.
"So, we’re trying to make him more outgoing."
Maggie did not hesitate to admit that she and Victor can be "quite strict."
She added, "[Connor's] not allowed TV on school days.
"He doesn't have an iPad. He doesn't have any mobile phones or whatever.
"He's not allowed any of that.
"He's only allowed TV on the weekends."
Despite these restrictions, Maggie is thankful that Connor is not the type to whine about it.
"He doesn't complain about it, which is great!
"We're so lucky we don't have a monster for a child.
"He's so easy, like he's a very smart boy.
"I don't have to spank him or anything because he knows when he's done something wrong, he apologizes right away.
"I'm sure all moms say this about their kids, but really, Connor is amazing!"
