For many moms, getting things done — from making sure everything is running smoothly at home and every family member is taken care of — is already a difficult task in itself.

But with the new distance learning setup, things became a lot more challenging. Now, you also have to learn how to be your child’s teacher and continuously find ways to help make their study-at-home experience a great one.

Not sure where to start? Here’s a checklist to help you do so:

1. SHOP FOR NUTRITIOUS SNACK ALTERNATIVES

Most kids won’t say no to sweets and chocolates, so it’s up to you to balance this out with more nutritious and delicious snack options. With so many and salty and sugary sweets available, make sure to always check the label to make sure you and your kids are getting naturally delicious snacks for both brain and body.

Remember: What your kids eat is important. Cutting down on sugar can help your kids feel less restless and hyperactive, and may even help them to focus when they study.

2. MAKE YOUR CHILD’S STUDY AREA DISTRACTION-FREE

Set up your kid’s study space in a spot where they won’t get distracted by the TV or by the neighbor's karaoke sessions. Make sure their study space has good lighting, a table and chair, school supplies, and a good internet signal to avoid disruptions.

If they own a phone, set some ground rules to help them focus on their lessons — like turning it off or on silent and not using it while classes are ongoing.

3. CONTINUE DOING REGULAR PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISES AT HOME

Active play and physical activities help your kids stay happy and healthy. Schedule days when you and your kids can do activities to keep them moving.

Walk around your neighborhood (just make sure you follow proper health and safety protocols). Or, if you have space at home, do simple activities together like jump rope or ball games. Not only do these help them stay fit, they also help children use up their extra energy.

4. STICK TO A MORNING SCHEDULE

Make mornings productive for your child! Encourage them to make their beds, followed by their daily morning exercise. Then, let them take a refreshing shower and hearty breakfast. If time permits, you can also let them watch a morning cartoon or do simple chores to help around the house.

Speaking of schedules, it is also a good idea to set a fixed time for studying. Doing these things helps give structure to your kids’ day (and yours).

5. TEACH YOUR KIDS PROPER HYGIENE

You already know this but it never hurts to repeat: Good hygiene habits are a must. Teach your kids the importance of hand washing, regular bathing, and taking care of their bodies. These might seem simple tasks, but they can help your children stay healthy and prevent illnesses that may also disrupt their homeschooling.

To support moms in keeping their kids happy and healthy at home, Robinsons Supermarket launched the Fit Kids campaign. Every time you shop for your kids’ and family’s needs at any Robinsons Supermarket near you, you get a chance to win P1 million worth of prizes. You can also enjoy many deals and discounts as well.
