In an interview with PEP.ph, Dennis opens up about life outside showbiz. He gets real and personal about navigating his 40s—from his responsibilities as a dad to managing finances, including bills and budgeting.

“[My routine] is just like any other dad’s,” he says. Aside from being a sought-after actor, most of his days are spent with his kids and partner, while still making time for himself.

Along with his growing responsibilities, Dennis explains his approach to finances has also changed with age. He tells us, “Now that I am married and have a family, the financial challenges definitely changed since I now assume the role of a provider.”

With his priorities shifting through the years, he points out that he has evolved to become more practical and realistic. The mindset automatically shifts when you have a family to provide for.

“There is no room for impulsive decisions anymore.”

On navigating family life and finances

Looking back, Dennis realized how much his priorities now influence the way he spends.

“I have to think of the needs not just of myself, but of my wife and my kids.” He adds. “It’s definitely more challenging now, especially with this economic climate.”

While being a celebrity comes with a lot of perks, not many people think about how unpredictable the industry can be, which also means knowing how to manage your finances well.

Having been in showbiz for so long, Dennis says there are days when business is good, and days when it isn’t.

“You really have to save up for the rainy days, as they say,” Dennis shares. “My wife and I share this responsibility, so we [help] each other manage our finances and provide for our family. Another way is getting into business.”

Providing for both their family’s needs, Dennis mentions he and his wife, Jennylyn Mercado make it a point to manage their finances wisely. This includes planning ahead, prioritizing needs, and choosing practical options that can help reduce costs—like investing in a hybrid car.

“[My wife does] most of the budgeting, [like] the regular day-to-day or monthly expenses of the family,” he tells us. “[But] for bigger expenses, my wife and I talk about it and make a decision together.”
