Rei Germar: "You would want to support locals muna because they struggled a lot. When you travel, you don't just help the airline, e. You help the employees of the airline. You help the tricycle driver, the motorcycle rentals, the karinderias, the whole community."

Content creator Rei Germar is all set to travel again after getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

Speaking haltingly, Rei told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Feeling ko, it took a while for me to actually be ready to travel kasi there's always the risk [of getting COVID-19].

"But when it was starting to, you know, the borders are starting to... and also the vaccination rate, I felt more secure to travel.

"And when I was vaccinated already parang mas free na to go outside."

PEP.ph interviewed the 25-year-old influencer on Friday, March 4, 2022, during the Klook Philippines relaunch at the Palacio de Memoria in Parañaque City.

EXPLORING THE PHILIPPINES

Rei revealed to PEP.ph her plan to explore and show more places in the country as her way of boosting local tourism.

Rei said, "I wanna see the world, but during the pandemic, of course, you would want to support locals muna because they struggled a lot.

"The first travel ko during the pandemic was Siargao. And then, my group, we were 11 in the group. We were the biggest group na una na dumating ever [sa island].

"You would see in their [locals] smiles na they were super happy.

"When you travel, you don't just help the airline, e. You help the employees of the airline. You help the tricycle driver, the motorcycle rentals, the karinderias, the whole community.

"So I was telling my friends, 'Let's explore the Philippines, it's such a beautiful country. There's so much beautful places to go.'"

ADJUSTING TO THE NEW NORMAL

So far, Rei has traveled to Zamboanga, Siargao, Boracay, and Dubai.

She observed that travelling has become more expensive now than before the pandemic—with airfares, activities, and accommodations costing more plus the added expense of pre-travel requirements.

She said, "Of course, mas expensive. Traveling before... Locally, you can travel for as low as PHP10,000, but now, t's gonna cost more because you need insurance, you need testing.

"I guess, the parang adjusting period is getting used to preparing in advance. Dati, if you wanna go, like, 'I wanna go to Cebu tomorrow, I can book a flight and go.'

"Now, hindi! You have to parang get all of your requirements first."

She added, thankfully, "Right now, some provinces are opening up na, you don't have to test anymore as long as you're vaccinated, as long as you're boosted."

But, whatever, Rei said she's raring to go, "As a gala, as a traveler... hindi makapag-stay sa bahay, I'm willing to go through all of the processes just so I can see the Philippines, to be exact.

"There are lots of requirements but you don't complain, e. It's part of it. It's the new normal... for us to go out and see the world again. So we have to follow all of them."

TRAVEL PREPARATIONS

To minimize the hassles, Rei has planned to book her travels through an agency.

She said, "Ako kasi, as a tamad, I always go... I book via an agency. The requirements are always changing, pag Alert 1, Alert 2, you know.

"Minsan, you're booked already and the next thing you know, cancelled yung flight.

"Of course, you can do it DIY, but personally, I just find it easier and less hassle and smoother when I do it via an agency."

As a tip to doing the booking one's own, Rei said, "Klook now is giving you the information you need when it comes to traveling to specific areas.

"It's super important because with that information, you can DIY it na e."

As for her travel OOTDs, Pinterest is her best friend.

She said, "Pinterest helps me a lot. So what I do—usually when I travel—I create a board before I travel so I have pegs.

"And my hack is I have a pair green pants, I will search, 'green pants outfit.'

"It helps you, e! If you know na you're weak on this aspect, so you try to like learn the way around it."
