Miss US Virgin Islands Carolyn Carter sponsors cleft surgeries

Miss US Virgin Islands Carolyn Carter (right) and Miss Guyana Soyini Fraser were the first two Miss Universe 2016 candidates to arrive in Manila.


Carolyn Carter, Miss US Virgin Islands 2016, arrived in Manila on January 7.

She was the first Miss Universe candidate to arrive.

On Wednesday, January 11, Carolyn had an early celebration of her 27th birthday with the beneficiaries of Smile Train Philippines, and visited their homes in Payatas, Quezon City.

She also brought them a special present.

On Instagram, the beauty queen wrote, "I am so proud to announce that my fundraiser for @SmileTrain raised enough to provide 47 children with cleft surgeries!!!

"I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present!!!

"As we grow older, we find that the true joy in life is found through giving and connecting with others.

"Thank you @SmileTrainPH for letting me celebrate with you in the Philippines by meeting the sweet babies and smiling faces who's lives you are transforming worldwide!!!"

In a separate Instagram post, Carolyn said she was fortunate enough to use her title in helping kids with cleft palate.

She wrote, "Smile, princess!!! Today has been an eye opening and deeply moving experience for me, it's been an honor to use my title and my voice to raise awareness for these life changing transformations."

Meanwhile, the second to arrive here in Manila, Miss Guyana Soyini Fraser, had also kept herself busy while waiting for the other candidates to arrive.

The 20-year-old model/host went to Our Lady of Mercy School in Quezon City on Wednesday, January 11, and was overwhelmed by the warm reception she received from its students.

Soyini shared her experience on Instagram and wrote, "Had the best morning EVER!!! I visited 'Our Lady of Mercy School' here in Quezon City and I was truly blown away by the welcome they gave me and even more impressed with how much they knew about my beloved #GUYANA.

"Thank you very much Mr. & Mrs. D'Oliveira for organizing this event along with the Teachers of 'Our Lady of Mercy School.'
