Long-time couple and travel buddies Megan Young and Mikael Daez picked the Maldives as their next out-of-the-country destination.
"Sobrang excited kami," said Mikael in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
How come they did not reserve it for their future honeymoon?
"No time to waste, di ba, kung may opportunity," Mikael threw in.
In fact, they have not been to our very own Amanpulo.
"Sobrang mahal kasi. Maldives is gonna be cheaper than Amanpulo.
"E, cowboy naman kami ni Megan, e. Hindi kami nag-i-stay sa mga five-star e kung nakikita niyo mga Instagram namin.”
Megan and Mikael first had a stopover in Singapore.
The total travel time going to the Maldives is usually seven hours and thirty minutes if it's a direct flight from Singapore.
But their plane departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Upon arrival in the smallest Asian country, the couple were faced with a small challenge as they brought too many luggage.
Their solution? A quick ride inn the back of a truck.
Megan posted a snap of their ride to the hotel.
She wrote, “Today's transportation.
“We had too much stuff, so the hotel suggested we take a truck!”
From Male, the capital city, Megan and Mikael traveled more than an hour to Maafushi.
It's not a resort, but a small island where you can have an insightful experience into the local culture of Maldivians.
Mikael said, "May bahay-kubo lang siya 'tapos i-e-Airbnb mo lang.”
Airbnb, according to Wikipedia, is an "online marketplace and hospitality service, enabling people to lease or rent short-term lodging including vacation rentals, apartment rentals, home stays, hostel beds, or hotel rooms."
He continued, "'Tapos tipong 50 dollars a night, 60 dollars a night, di ba? Saan ka pa? Yung babayaran lang talaga namin is yung airfare, airfare lang talaga yung mahal.
"'Tapos yung mga tao dun, huhuli ng isda 'tapos iluto mo na lang dun."
The two are practical travelers. They still plan to visit the expensive resorts.
"May day fee. E, mas mabuti pang magbayad kami ng two thousand pesos a day rather than mga one hundred fifty thousand pesos a day."
Mikael credited his girlfriend's research skills because they always get the best vacation packages.
