The promise of get-rich-quick schemes may be too good to be true, but are also too tempting to ignore. Sob stories of people robbed of their hard-earned money by these schemes are in the news almost every day. It makes you wonder, what could drive these people to do the most insane things, whether they're victims or swindlers?
The answer may be in Conman: Honor Thy Father, an Erik Matti film starring John Lloyd Cruz and Meryll Soriano, white-collared workers who are accused of tricking churchgoers into investing in a dubious financial scheme.
To force them to return the money, their debtors threaten their daughter (played by Krystal Brimner) and a story of revenge and betrayal begins to unfold.
John Lloyd's character is forced to go back to the past he left behind: being an acetylene gang member.
Conman: Honor Thy Father premiered at the 40th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and was a last-minute replacement for Hermano Puli at the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Conman: Honor Thy Father opens in cinemas on December 25.
