No fear for Jennylyn in 'Super Noypi' filming

CONQUERING her fear of heights, Jennylyn Mercado rose to the occasion and filmed a difficult action scene in the upcoming film Super Noypi.

Jennylyn clung to the skids of the moving chopper at an altitude of 100 feet for 10 minutes without a stunt double – a feat producers claim is a first among local actresses filming an action scene.

In the People’s Tonight edition of October 9, Roselle Monteverde-Teo, executive producer of the film, was quoted describing Jennylyn as “the only Filipino actress who has done [the stunt] alone.”

While Jennylyn admitted she feared executing the scene, she said she wanted to give justice to her role in the film.

“Kailangan kong gawin for the movie. For the sake of art. Ang pangit naman kasi kung magkakaroon ng daya, di ba? So mas maganda at mas makatotohanan kung ako mismo ang gagawa,” Jennylyn told GMA-7 news program 24 Oras.

Jennylyn describes her role to YES! Online as “parang Tomb Raider,” in reference to the 2001 Hollywood production that starred Angelina Jolie, who made breathtaking stunts in depicting the popular interactive game heroine Lara Croft. As such, Jennylyn has entered the action genre—a stark deviation from her usual dramatic roles.

She stars in the MAQ Productions offering for the Metro Manila Film Festival with long-time screen partner Mark Herras and John Prats.

Mark was all praises for Jen. In a separate interview with 24 Oras, Mark said he never thought Jen would agree to do such a scene. “Grabe ang fear niya sa heights,” Mark said. “Kaya hangang-hanga ako sa kanya sa scene na yon.”

In a separate interview with YES! Online, Mark describes the mood on the set and summarizes his role in the movie: “Masaya yun shooting namin, sa Tanay, Rizal, Binangonan, Tagaytay, sa Fairview, marami e. Yung role ko leader of the group, responsible kuya of the barkada.”

When YES! Online asked their plans for this Yuletide season, Mark said he will celebrate Christmas with his family and friends. “Syempre kung masaya yun Christmas ko before, dapat mas masaya ngayon.”

Jennylyn, on the other hand, is hoping for an early Christmas break. “By November mag-advance vacation ako. Pupunta ako sa beach lang. Dapat lang na mag-vacation dahil sa sobrang pagod, sobrang puyat. Kahit konting pahinga lang.”
