Alfred Vargas recently finished working with Christopher De Leon and National Artist for Film Eddie Romero for the digital movie Faces of Love.
In a November 11 interview with Alfred during the 11th anniversary of Startalk at the GMA-7 compound, Alfred told YES! Online that it was a "dream come true" for him to work with Boyet (Christopher's nickname). He added: "Meron [nga] akong eksena sa kanya na ang hahaba."
Alfred gave the gist of the movie: "Detective mystery siya na may pagka-comedy." In Faces of Love, Alfred Vargas played Toby Villamor, a criminal defense specialist with a police background. He was hired by Don Arcadio Silvestre (Boyet De Leon) to find out who has been writing him anonymous letter for the past ten years. Other cast members include Juliana Palermo, Chinggoy Alonzo, Ricky Davao, and Chanda Romero. In a separate interview, screenwriter-producer-director Eddie Romero shared that the whole movie only needed nine taping days.
What made this project even more special for Alfred was the fact that he was able to work with the National Artist for Film Eddie Romero during the latter's directorial debut in the digital format. "Isa sa mga wishes ko as an actor [is to work with Eddie Romero]. Dahil nakatrabaho ko yung "The Great" Eddie Romero. At least ngayon malalagay ko na sa resume ko [that] I had worked with Eddie Romero."
When asked to describe how Eddie Romero worked on the set, Alfred narrated: "Sobrang cool na cool lang. Never siyang nagalit. He's brilliant. Sinasabi nung iba, Woody Allen [a Hollywood actor and producer] style siya. Gusto ko siyang mapanood pag balik ko dito."
Alfred recently left for Malaysia to work on a new project. "Independent soap opera siya na [ang] title ay Muli. Show siya sa Malaysia saka dito sa Philippines. Early next year." He also talked about his preparations for the project. "Inaral ko yung script-more on character study. Balita ko magagaling yung aktor dun e. Seseryosohin natin talaga tong project na ‘to. Papakita natin sa mundo na iba ang Pilipino."
After starring in Faces of Love, which was shown as part of the Cinemanila International Film Festival, Alfred can also be seen in the Metro Manila Film Fest 2006 entry Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeeh. Alfred will play the role of Dodong, the love interest of lead character Ada (played by Rustom Padilla). Alfred pointed out that the thoroughly enjoyed his MTV scene in the said movie. "Meron akong MTV scene na kumakanta ako dun e. Yun yung turning [point] ng movie e."
The young star remained optimistic of his projects for the coming year. "More projects na magaganda talaga. Acting piece na projects. Tapos gusto kong tumagal sa industriya. I want to make a difference dito sa industriya kahit na in my own small way. Hopefully, one day [I might] win an award."(With a report from Nerisa Almo)
