Dingdong Dantes would have joined talent search

Dingdong said he would have joined a talent search—such as StarStruck—if such shows were in existence when he started in showbiz.

Actor-director Dingdong Dantes said he would have joined a talent search such as StarStruck if only these shows have been in existence when he was just starting in the show business.

“I would have joined. Masasaktan ako [if di ako manalo]. Move on. Dami pang ibang venues,” Dingdong said in the StarStruck: The Next Level press conference last November 29 at the Marina Restaurant in Timog Avenue.

He continued saying: “Hindi lang basta-basta ang pag-aartista. Para pambuhay ng pamilya, para umangat sa buhay. Malaking responsibilidad.”

StarStruck: The Next Level will premiere on Monday, November 4. Dingdong will again be joined by his co-hosts for the show’s third season—Jolina Magdangal and Raymond Gutierrez. In this upcoming season, there will be 20 contestants. For a change, they expanded the search to include competitors from an age range of 16-21 years old, from last season’s 15-18 years old.

Jolina, who was also present in the press conference, described this year’s batch: “Nilakihan 'yung range ng age. Iba-ibang mukha. May sweet, cute, gwapo.”

On the other hand, Raymond Gutierrez added: “Di na pa-cute. More direct [kung] magsalita. Mas may personality. People are now gonna be more mature, more assured of what they want to do and how to get it.”

There will also be four winners in this upcoming season. Aside from a pair of StarStruck Ultimate Survivors, there will also be a StarStruck Ultimate Hunk and a StarStruck Ultimate Sweetheart—all four will win P1 million and P2 million worth of exclusive GMA-7 management contract.

Dingdong Dantes said: “Kelangan ng household name kaya [dapat] maganda ang pagpili”. True enough, StarStruck has produced the likes of Mark Herras, Jennylyn Mercado, Yasmien Kurdi, Iwa Moto, Marky Cielo, Rainier Castillo, Katrina Halili and Ryza Cenon.

The audience must see the new challenges. Even the hosts have no idea on what to expect. Dingdong said: “Yung challenges, 'di pa sinasabi.”

Right now, Dingdong still has no favorites in the bunch of applicants. There are still 80 contestants vying for the 20 elusive slots. “Sa December 17, 20 na lang sila. Televised yun.”

When asked what advice he would give to the Starstruck hopefuls, he said: “Patience. It’s really hard coming from their perspective.”
