Child-friendly programs received the Anak TV Seal in a simple ceremony held earlier today, December 8, at the Soka Gakkai Philippines building on Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
The Southeast Asian Foundation for Children's Television (SEAFCTV) awarded the coveted Anak TV Seal to 87 television shows considered to be child-sensitive. The Anak TV Seal is a national award bestowed by a jury composed of Filipinos representing various regions in the country. This year marks the sixth edition of the awarding ceremony.
The Anak TV Seal was "a guide for parents and yayas," explained Edgardo Roces, SEAFCTV president, during the awarding ceremony. "Ang dami kasing shows ngayon, hindi alam [ng mga magulang] kung ano papanoorin ng mga anak nila."
For the second straight year, ABC-5 led the pack with 14 child-friendly programs. This was followed by a triple tie among the stations Net 25, RPN-9, and Studio 23, which all received eleven Anak TV Seals each. The Kapamilya network, ABS-CBN, lived up to its name by having ten shows with the Anak TV seal of approval. Nine shows of GMA-7 were branded as child-friendly while its sister network QTV-11 had seven shows. IBC-13 was honored with five shows receiving the coveted seal. Lastly, two shows from the Southern Broadcasting Network (SBN Channel 21) were also awarded the seal this year.
Aside from recognizing the family-friendly programs on local television, the SEAFCTV also recognized role models that it believed today's youth can emulate. The organization named Gary Valenciano and Mel Tiangco the Most Well-Liked TV Personalities of the Year.
The two topped a list of choices, determined by 4,000 jurors via screenings held nationwide from March to November 2006. The respondents included bishops, college deans, teachers, parents, business executives, and government workers. The list was finally narrowed down to 10 males and 10 females, all of whom were recognized during the December 8 awarding ceremony.
Gary Valenciano, one of the showbiz personalities honored during the early morning ceremony, noted the significance of the Anak TV Seal. "Today is one of those moments when it doesn't matter if you're Kapamilya, Kapuso, or what TV station you work for," said Mr. Pure Energy (Gary V's moniker) in his acceptance speech. "It's so encouraging to know that parents can trust their children to watch TV with you guys around."
The other male personalities in the Top 10 list include: Piolo Pascual, Julius Babao, Arnold Clavio, Aga Muhlach, Sam Milby, Richard Gutierrez, Mike Enriquez, Jericho Rosales, and Dennis Trillo.
The other female personalities in the list are: Sharon Cuneta, Christine Bersola-Babao, Bernadette Sembrano, Angel Locsin, Korina Sanchez, Kristine Hermosa, Sarah Geronimo, Bea Alonzo, and Judy Ann Santos.
