Sam Concepcion: From superhero to dramatic young actor

Little Big Star grand winner Sam Concepcion now tries his hand at portraying a dramatic role in Walang Kapalit. He says it has been a learning experience for him to work with award-winning actors like Edu Manzano, Dina Bonnevie, Piolo Pascual, and Claudine Barretto.

From a superhero role as Boi Bawang in Super Inggo, the Little Big Star grand champion Sam Concepcion now shifts into a dramatic role as he plays the young Piolo Pascual in ABS-CBN's new teleserye Walang Kapalit, which will start airing on April 23.

"I'm really honored to be a part of it. Also I'm honored nga to be working with all of these veteran actors and actresses, and of course, Mr. Wenn Deramas, a very brilliant director," says Sam in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the press conference of Walang Kapalit last April 11 at ABS-CBN compound.

The young singer-actor is more than happy to play the role of young Noel, "I was very privileged that I was picked to play the role of younger Piolo Pascual. I mean, he's Piolo Pascual. I'm playing the young Noel, 'yung role niya."

Sam sees this break as a challenge, "It was very hard, kasi medyo heavy drama. I'm very glad that Direk Wenn [Deramas] was able to help me with my role and mas na-internalize ko yung role. He directed it very well, and nakatulong 'yon sa akin."

He also adds that the cooperation of the staff as well as his co-actors helped him pull off the character he's playing. However, Sam would have wanted to have a scene with Piolo.

Meanwhile, aside from Walang Kapalit, the young actor will also be busy with other projects. He is a part of the theater production of High School Musical , which is scheduled to play in June at the Meralco Theater. Then, Sam will also be dubbing for Hero channel's animé series Beck. Lastly, he is set to launch a new album soon under Universal Records.
