"Well, in a way, okay rin sa akin 'Pure Power,'" sabi ni Gab. "Ang ganda ng pangalan, e. Exactly when you hear it, parang wow! And it has a touch of my dad and a touch of me, which is power. And that's what people say, kasi sila ang nag-name niyan.
"It's actually, at first, 'Pure Power Energy.' Pero parang I get medyo awkward, so we cut it short na 'Pure Power' na lang. Pero ‘yon nga lang, in a way, parang it combines the name of my Dad and me," paliwanag ng binata.
FUTURE PLANS. Ayon kay Gab, he has more plans other than appearing in ASAP ‘07. Nagkakataon lang daw talaga sa ngayon, madalas siyang mapanood sa Sunday musical variety show ng ABS-CBN because of their dance album.
"I'm not basing my career in ASAP alone," paglilinaw niya. "Siyempre, mas nakikita ako sa ASAP because of the album. But I'm also doing a lot of mall tours. But right now, I'm also working on going to the States by next year."
"I'm going to study for three years. Mawawala ako. My Dad was asking me, ‘Are you ready to give up your age?' Kasi now, I am only 19, but when I come back, I'll be like 22... But I want to take up three courses. Associate in Arts siya and when I come back, I might leave again for my Masters. Kasi I don't really plan to stay in show business," saad niya.
Inamin ni Gab na hindi siya nag-aaral ngayon, though he has already taken three semesters in Music Production sa College of St. Benilde.
"I don't know how to say it, but I wasn't enjoying. I had to stop. Because I realized if I continue studying in school wherein I have no passion and I have no inspiration, I'm gonna be wasting money. I'm just gonna be wasting almost a hundred thousand pesos per sem on something I don't care about.
"I felt I don't wanna waste my money kasi I'd rather use my money in my education in the States rather than waste it here. Kasi yung grades ko, hindi maganda. Not because I do not want to study, but because I do not have the passion," paliwanag ng binata.
Ayon kay Gab, definitely, it's not his course which is the problem. In fact, pagdating niya sa U.S., something to do with music pa rin ang course na kukunin niya.
"It's my life. Music is everything. When you talk about music, I can talk day in and day out because I was born into it. It's my whole life. For one week kasi, I experienced na mag-sit-in sa States, nag-open house ako sa school. When I saw their equipment, when I saw the teachers, talagang they teach with passion talaga," kuwento niya.
Sa Musicians Institute sa Los Angeles, California, plano ni Gabriel na mag-aral ng Associate in Arts, kung saan three courses every year ang maari niyang matapos. He's hoping na by June or earlier next year makapag- simulang mag-aral.
MATTERS OF THE HEART.
"Yeah, I have a girlfriend now," pag-amin niya. "I can't say her name kasi ayaw niya. We've been together for almost five months now, but I plan to stay with her for the rest of my life."
Dagdag pa niya, this time daw talaga ay non-showbiz na ang gusto niya since na-experience niya nang magka-girlfriend ng taga-showbiz. Nakilala raw niya ang kanyang present girlfriend through young actress Denise Laurel.
"Best friend actually sila. And I met her in passing lang... For some reasons, I didn't find her really pretty, but I got to talk to her," sabi ni Gab.
When it comes to faith, Gabriel said na hindi sila pareho ng church since Catholic ang kanyang girlfriend.
"It's pretty complicated," sabi ng young dancer. "She's a Catholic, but she's been going with me in the church every Sunday. She told me that the only thing that's stopping her from going to church every Sunday with me is the fact that she's a singer in their church, and she doesn't wanna leave yet... Kasi ang galing niyang kumanta. Sobrang galing talaga!"
"She's actually in plays now, like in Repertory Philippines. She guested in ASAP once," sabi ni Gab.
Natigilan si Gab when PEP told him na kung ganoong lumalabas na rin pala ang girlfriend niya sa stage and on TV, wala naman palang magiging problema if he will mention her name.
"Actually, you know what, I already opened it before. But every time I say her name, people make gulat. It's pretty much the same as the last one," paliwanag niya.
Eventually, he admitted that his girlfriend's name is Nikki Guevarra, na kapangalan nga ng ex-girlfriend niyang si Nikki Gil.
"That's long over," diin niya. "Right now, I can't even explain how in love I am. The love now is more on...wala na yung selos. I don't know how to explain it but right now, it's healthy for me because it's helping me in my career. I'm uplifted with the relationship. She makes me happy and she helps me out."
Nakilala na rin daw ng mga magulang ni Gab na sina Gary at Angeli Valenciano ang present girlfriend niya, the same way na nakasama na rin daw niya ang pamilya ni Nikki. Ayon pa kay Gab, hindi rin magiging problema kung tatlong taon man siyang mag-aaral sa Los Angeles since his girlfriend will also take up Theater in New York.
"I can still see her there. At least, although malayo pa rin, it's still near compared to L.A. and Manila," pagtatapos niya.
