Alfie Lorenzo is upset with the people who pressured the U.S. organizers to cancel the premiere of the horror film Ouija. The movie, which stars his talent Judy Ann Santos, was supposed to be shown in five U.S. cities.
In his Abante column today, Alfie wrote that there were efforts by The Filipino Channel (TFC) in the U.S. to cancel the premiere. Out of the five cities where Ouija was supposed to premiere, only the New Jersey premiere pushed through. The other four cities cancelled allegedly due to the influence of people working at TFC.
TFC is owned by ABS-CBN, where Judy Ann is a contract artist. Ouija was produced by rival company GMA Films in co-production withViva Films. Also in the movie were Jolina Magdangal, Iza Calzado, and Rhian Ramos.
Viva Films sold the distribution rights of Ouija to ABS-CBN's Star Cinema for its U.S. video release. Viva earlier sold the U.S. distribution rights of another movie, Paano Kita Iibigin, starring Regine Velasquez and Piolo Pascual, to the same outfit.
A week before they left for New York, Alfie already prodded the New Jersey organizer to just cancel the premiere. The New Jersey organizer also told Alfie that someone also threatened them if they push through with the showing of Ouija.
"Hindi naman na-upset sina Juday at Ryan [Agoncillo, her boyfriend] dahil mas makakabakasyon sila at pasyal nang husto. Hayun nga at nag-enjoy sila nang husto sa Catalina Island," Alfie wrote.
Judy Ann would have made stops at the following U.S. cities: Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and New Jersey. This would have been the first time that Judy Ann would be present in a movie premiere in the U.S. Alfie shared that in the past, Judy Ann would have been unable to attend an event in the U.S. because of her busy schedule.
Alfie added, "Juday was never brought to America to attend the preem nite of her movies with Star Cinema. Ewan ko kung bakit? Gayung yung mga stars of lesser magic ay naibiyahe patungong Amerika para lang magteyping o mag-shooting ng movie nila sa iba't ibang panig ng mundo, gayung heto si Juday at most qualified to represent the network's movie arm."
JUDAY-RICHARD MOVIE. Alfie also revealed that the movie of Judy Ann that will pair her with GMA-7's prized talent, Richard Gutierrez, would push through with a planned showing date for February.
According to Alfie, the Juday-Richard movie was was to be produced by Mother Lily Monteverde. But the Regal matriarch backed out after some quarters said that an ABS-CBN executive told her to back off from the project. The planned movie would go up against an Angel Locsin-Piolo Pascual starrer in Star Cinema.
Alfie said that Ryan and Richard Gutierrez were able to get another financier, Attorney Richard Stein, who is based in California.
Alfie quoted Ryan: "With Richard and I producing the movie, no evil elements can stop us from doing the dream movie at ito ang first ever movie ni Juday na ipapa-premiere namin around the world, sa tulong ng aming legal adviser na si Atty. Stein."
Alfie added it was Ryan who was upset at first about the aborted trip to New York. But the couple accepted the fact and there would be other times to do some sightseeing in the U.S.
