Being busy is not an excuse for KC Concepcion to ditch her noble endeavors.
"They really know that it's my priority," said KC to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last week, April 2, during her visit at the Marco Polo Children's Center. She was referring to the reps of the World Food Programme (WFP) as well as the other foundations she's affiliated with.
"If they call me and they say we need you on Tuesday I'm there on Tuesday, no matter what," she added.
According to KC, she usually receives surprise calls from the foundations to inform her of their activities, which most of the time requires her immediate presence. "That's usually how it is," she smiled amiably.
Named last February as WFP's National Ambassador Against Hunger, the pretty model-actress revealed that they have a lot activities lined up for this year. For an ambassador, she's really hands-on—making sure that she's well aware of all the details right from the start.
"I need to write a written proposal before I can do anything linking the name of the UN [United Nations] of course. Lagi akong nagsusulat sa United Nations para ma-approve ‘yong mga gusto naming gawin," enthused KC, who handed out 10 sacks of rice in behalf of the WFP to the children housed by the Marco Polo Children's Center.
KC expressed hope that she would be able to use her celebrity status to pull some tight strings.
"Now that I'm involved with the UN, sana everything... Maybe Bayo can help and I would like to involve all the other companies that I'm endorsing to do what they can, ‘di ba?"
REAL-LIFE DRAMA. KC's aware that the fantasy world usually offered on screen is very different from what's really happening outside.
"'Yon nga, like what I've said, hindi na kasi entertainment ‘to, totoong buhay na po ‘to," she said, pertaining to her advocacies dealing with social issues.
She added, "To be involved with an organization that can do big things is really special. It's not every day that you get offers to learn so much, to work with people who are so passionate. Napaka-committed nila sa work nila and araw-araw ng buhay nila iniisip nila ‘yong mga bata dito sa Pilipinas, sa Mindanao lalo na."
Still very much a neophyte in the world of acting, KC, even this early, appreciates the opportunity to portray various characters with complex lives and lifestyles.
"'Yong pagiging artista, maganda rin ‘yon kasi, kumbaga, nakaka-relate ka sa tao at nakaka-relate sa ‘yo ang mga tao. Marami akong natutunan na iba't ibang mukha ng Pinoy. So it's a way for me to relate to them and vice-versa. So kung hindi mo magawa ‘yon, paano ko sila makakausap about things important to them?" reasoned the daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and former matinee idol Gabby Concepcion.
With KC having her hands full, she puts any love relationship on hold.
"I'm not ready for a serious relationship," she quickly replied when asked about her lovelife.
"'Tsaka I won't have time," she argued with a grin, "it's not gonna be fair to the guy."
Turning serious this time, KC added, "Hindi talaga magiging fair sa kanya dahil ano ‘yon, e, ‘pag pumasok ka sa isang relationship, kailangan may time ka, kailangan may atensiyon and it's not the time for that right now."
