There is a medical reason why young star Alfonso Martinez cannot be as slim as he wants to be.
Kung fastidious dresser ang ama ni Alfonso na si Albert Martinez, artsy naman si Alfonso from his mode of dressing down to his pictorial for the May birthday celebration of Star Magic artists where he belongs.
Napansin ito ng mga manunulat as they looked at Alfonso's publicity picture. So he just laughingly said he was aiming for the "artsy" look during that shoot.
May pagka-bulky pa rin si Alfonso sa tingin namin, although we reminded him that the last time we saw each other sa Camarines Sur para sa taping ng final episode ng Astigs ng ABS-CBN, kung saan siya nag-guest appearance, he was sporting enough to be photographed topless together with his more well-built co-Star Magic boys.
"Well, it was a fun shoot lang naman, so I don't mind," sabi ni Alfonso during the said luncheon presscon sa ABS-CBN.
He doesn't think though that he could follow his father's early career path, kung saan as a Regal baby—at the time of Maricel Soriano, Snooky Serna, Gabby Concepcion, and his then more famous brother William Martinez— dumaan din sa mga beefcake shots si Albert.
Hirap palang magpapayat si Alfonso dahil mayroon siyang scoliosis. Rare for a man na magkaroon ng ganitong karamdaman sa buto. Alfonso explains na statistically raw, eight out of ten scoliosis sufferers are women.
"Wala naman ang mga parents ko saka mga kapatid ko, I got this from my lola [‘60s Philippine movie queen Ms. Amalia Fuentes], although hers is mild lang," sabi ni Alfonso.
Grabe raw ang scoliosis ni Alfonso kung kaya't hindi siya puwedeng mag-exercise at hanggang diet at therapy lang siya.
"Dati, ang backbone ko parang letter S lang. Napapansin ng doctor namin na lumalala ito, nagiging stylized S na siya!' pagbibiro pa ni Alfonso.
He is following a rigid diet naman daw, lalo pa't health conscious ang bahay nila. Pero it can only go so far.
