Richard Poon defends Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's foul-mouthed behavior

Richard Poon aired his sentiments about presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte being a “foul-mouth.”

In his Facebook post last Sunday night, April 24, Richard observed that other candidates fared better than Duterte in terms of performance at the final leg of the presidential debate.

But the Kapamilya singer maintained that he's still rooting for Mayor Duterte as his presidential bet.

Richard's post partly read, “Grace Poe gave the most eloquent, decent, diplomatic, sensitive speech in the end.

“I blame you Davao, why did you have to show me Duterte's SUPERIOR GOVERNANCE?

“Why did you have to narrate to me his SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE against crime, corruption & illegal drugs?”

Richard also believes that Mayor Duterte's vow to put a stop to injustices in the country far outweighs his foul-mouthed behavior in public.

“I will do the OPPOSITE of what I HAVE BEEN USED TO FOR SO MANY YEARS OF PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTS:

“I will forego beautiful words from excellent statesmen Mar & excellent stateswoman Poe.”

“I will go for a foul-mouth that I believe can CREATE THE GREATEST CHANGE in our country, rather than an angelic diplomat.

A devout Christian, Richard added that he understands if some people feel disappointed with his choice of candidate.

Richard and his wife Maricar Reyes first showed their support towards Duterte last Friday, April 16.

Two days afterwards, Duterte drew flak for his “gutter joke” about an Australian rape victim.

The Davao City mayor has since issued a public apology for his insensitive joke in a campaign rally.

He said, “There was no intention of disrespecting our women and those who have been victims of this horrible crime.

“Sometimes my mouth can get the better of me.”
