"Originally, 40 artists with 40 of their works will be ondisplay. Yun ang theme since I am turning 40 years old. Pero biglang dumami nasila. Naging 125 artists na ang magpa-participate. This means more houses forGawad Kalinga," Julius Babao happily announces.

"Dito sa Gawad Kalinga, everyone is sincere and true. There's no room for empty promises and politicking are not allowed," aniya nangmakausap ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

"Everyone of us must takeresponsibility for improving the quality of life. I have witnessed thetransformation of GK communities. It's not just the physical home thatundergoes changes; even the behavior, habits, and outlook of the communityimprove.

"A squatter's area where peopledrink on the streets, hold riots at night, and throw garbage anywhere istransformed into a proud and dignified community."

Every year, kapagbirthday nila, they see to it na meron silang dino-donate na bahay sa GawadKalinga. Isang paraan daw iyon na makapag-share sila ng kanilang blessings nakanilang natatanggap every year.

"This year I am planning to donate an entire village, about30 houses through the help of my artist friends and art lovers. With the helpof God and people willing to share their time and effort in helping us build acommunity, makakaya namin ito.

"I think most artists want to make a difference in oursociety, masters or upcoming artists. Many of them can relate to the problem ofpoverty because a lot of artists are also still struggling to make a name forthemselves in the art scene.

"Now, the gates for greater opportunities have opened sincemany Pinoy artists have been making it big in the international auction scene. When I presented my idea to them, most of them immediately agreed to join thebandwagon."

"Originally, 40 artists with 40 of their works will be ondisplay. Yun ang theme since I am turning 40 years old. Pero biglang dumami nasila. Naging 125 artists na ang mag-participate. This means more houses forGawad Kalinga," natutuwang kuwento pa ni Julius.

"I think the friendship that I have developed with theseartists and gallery owners over the years of my art collecting has helped bringall the elements together. And I also did not have a hard time convincingsponsors to support our project. I guess it also helps if people trust andrespect you."

"Tulad nga ng sinabi ng aking high school art teacher, ‘Artis life and life is art.' Our life can be compared to a plain canvas. Youchoose what colors to put on that canvas, bright or dark. You decide whether touse a brush or a palette or to use oil or acrylic paint.

"You may choose to make a masterpiece or a disaster. Inother words, just like painters, we are in control of our lives, our canvas; wehave the power to make it better or worse.

"And with a project like Art 40, we hope to change the livesof our poor brothers and sisters."
