Comedy King Dolphy and Box-office King Vic Sotto sat downfor an interview with Startalk lastAugust 9 to talk about their upcoming film DobolTrobol,—which will open tomorrow, August 13—their sentiments on Joey deLeon's controversial issues, and the special people who inspire them.
There's talk going around that people are alreadyclamoring for a sequel to Dobol Troboleven though the film has yet to hit theaters. What is their reaction to this?
"Sana nga," Vic said to Startalk co-host Butch Francisco. "Gusto kong maulit ang experience ko kay Pidol. Yung trabahonamin parang nagsaya lang kami, e."
"Hindi mo mararamdaman na tapos na," agreed Dolphy.
"Ganoon kasaya ang pagtratrabaho namin," affirmed Vic. "Ganoonang shooting namin, e."
Since this the first time the two great comedians team up for a movie, what exactly did they discover about one another?
"Totoo pala ang chismis tungkol sa kanya," Vic said. AsDolphy's eyes perked up, Vic continued by saying, "Mabait, galante, at mahusaymakisama sa kapwa. Magaling magpatawa, at magandang lalaki!"
After laughing, Dolphy proceeded to say his piece on theobservation of his co-star. He said, "Noong magkasama kami, at alam ko na rinyung tinutulungan niya ibang kaibigan ko din, at tinutulungan ko aytinutulungan din niya—ako, okay na okay sa akin na magkakaroon ng sequel."
In the art of making people laugh, did Vic and Dolphyexchange lessons?
"Matagal na akong nag-aaral ng style, e, saka mga karakterna ginagampanan niya," Vic said of Dolphy. "Kung tutuusin, marami akongcharacters na pinatern sa mga characters niya noong araw, e."
PATCHING THINGS UPFOR FRIENDS' SAKE. Even outside of work, Vic and Dolphy seem to crosspaths, with Joey de Leon and Willie Revillame, as bridge. Recently, Dolphy askedWillie on when the latter was going to make up with Joey.People may remember that Joey and Willie had verbal tussle on TVconcerning a Wowowee incident.
"Oo, sabi nga niya [Willie] na ayusin ko daw," Dolphy said."Sabi ko, ‘Sige, kakausapin ko si Joey.' So, sabi niya na gusto na niyamakipagtuos kay Joey."
"Sana maayos na din," Vic agreed. Then he quipped, "Maybagong kaaway si Pare [Joey], e.
"Alam ko na kung sino," Dolphy said in between laughs."Nababasa ko din!"
THE WOMEN. Dolphy'sautobiography entitled Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-isa showed content from writerBibeth Orteza saying that Dolphy, when it comes to women, has already gonethrough A to Z. However, Vic Sotto was close at his heels.
"Yun talaga, e," Dolphy laughed. "A, e, 'tapos Z ang last ko,si Zsa Zsa [Padilla], so A to Z."
In Dolphy's case, before he reached Z for Zsa Zsa, there wasan A for Alma Moreno. A controversial issue went out about Alma refusing to beinterviewed for Dolphy's book, a thing that Dolphy respects.
"Wala naman controversy, e," Dolphy said. "Diyaryo lang atmedia lang nagpapalaki noon. Kami ni Vandolph nag-usap. Hindi pa kami nag-usapni Ness, actually."
So what is Dolphy's message to Alma?
"Kay Ness, basta tayo magkaibigan tayo alang-alang kay Vandolph.Huwag na natin itong halukayin pa kung ano ang pinag-awayan natin, dahil mahalnatin ang pamilya natin. Kaya ako, hindi ako nagsasabi ng anything againstyou."
Turning to Vic, Butch asked, "Ikaw Bossing, may letra banakalista sa..." But before he could finish, he was met with numerous "Ay, wala, wala," from the comedian.
"X, marami," joked Vic, referring to the former relationshipshe had before. Vic also said that he had stopped at P and he intended it tostay that way. P, by the way, stands for current girlfriend Pia Guanio.
When it comes to relationships, Vic is normally quiet andsecretive, but in this situation, he was sure about girlfriend PiaGuanio. "Siya na ang huling babae sa buhay ko," Vic said. Then he jokinglyadded, "ang sunod sa kanya, e, baka lalaki na!"
There is some news popping out that Vic and Dolphy wereplanning to do a double wedding with their respective partners. Is this true?
"Nagkabiruan kami noong nag guest ako sa birthday niya," Vicrelated, "tinatanong ako kung ano ang wish ko daw kay Dolphy. Sabi ko na wishko lang na makapag asawa na siya at mag-double wedding tayo para talagang DobolTrobol na."
Dolphy and Vic may be comedians but their camaraderie forone another is taken very seriously. For Vic, it was very much a blessedopportunity for him to star in a film with Dolphy, as he expressed in his finalmessage.
"Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa pagkakataon na ibinigay sa akin namagkasama kami sa isang pelikula," Vic said as he smiled to Dolphy.
"Pag mahal ko ang isang tao, sinasabi ko ‘I love you,'"Dolphy, in turn, said. Then facing Vic he said in all seriousness, "I love you.Mahal kita."
"I love you, too," answered Vic.
