Three Philippine entries enter semi-finals of 2008 International Emmy Awards

The GMA-7 action-fantasy show Joaquin Bordado's Iza Calzado, ABS-CBN's Volta and Pangarap na Bituin made it to the list of regional semi-finalists for this year's International Emmy Awards.

According to the official website of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATS), three entries from the Philippines have made it to the list of regional semi-finalists for this year's International Emmy Awards.

Two shows of the Kapamilya network were able to make the cut: Pangarap Na Bituin is one of six regional semi-finalists for the Telenovela category while the fantaserye Volta is the semi-finalist for Comedy. Pangarap Na Bituin (international title: Dream of a Star) was topbilled by the Jewel Sisters, portrayed by Sarah Geronimo, Rica Peralejo, and Maja Salvador.

Ai-Ai delas Alas is the title character of Volta, which is a spin-off of the movie of the same title. Directed by Wenn Deramas (who also helmed the silver screen version four years ago), Volta is set to compete with seven other entries for the next round of eliminations.

GMA-7 star Iza Calzado is the country's representative in the category Best Performance by an Actress. The actress is nominated for her primetime show Joaquin Bordado, wherein she played the wife of Robin Padilla.

Last year, ABS-CBN's news program Bandila was the official nomination of the Philippines to the Emmy's. In 1995, GMA-7 qualified as a finalist for a Special Emmy Award.

Founded in 1969, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is an organization of global broadcasters, with members from over 65 countries and over 400 companies. The Academy aims to recognize excellence in television programming produced outside of the U.S. and presents the International Emmy Award to programs in 15 categories. The awards are presented at the International Emmy Awards Gala, held every November in New York City.
