TV Ratings Oct. 31-Nov. 3: "24 Oras" and "Survivor" changing local TV landscape

Currently the top three primetime programs in Mega Manila are 24 Oras, Gagambino, and 24 Oras, according to AGB Nielsen Philippines.

It seems that televiewers—well, at least, Kapuso viewers—are now more interested in news and reality shows rather than fantaseryes and soap operas. The newscast 24 Oras topped the primetime race in Mega Manila last night, November 3, and tied with Survivor Philippines at No. 2 Friday night, October 31.

GMA-7's 24 Oras generated a 34.6 percent rating last night, thus leading all primetime shows. It toppled former No. 1 Gagambino, GMA-7's fantaserye starring Dennis Trillo, which dropped to second place with 34.2 percent.

Survivor Philippines, despite starting at the late hour of 9:45 to 10 p.m., is said to have posted amazing figures. Its 33.8 percent rating last night pulled the Paolo Bediones-hosted reality show up to third place. This is also a GMA-7 production.

Coming in fourth and fifth place are Richard Gutierrez's Codename: Asero (32.5 percent) and Rhian Ramos's La Lola (32.3 percent).

AGB NIELSEN PHILIPPINES. This is according to AGB Nielsen Philippines, whose website defines it as "a unique Television Audience Measurement (TAM)-provider, in that 100% of its resources are dedicated to the provision of independent, reliable, and transparent audience systems." In other words, the company offers a way of measuring audience preferences.

Its website lists the following as AGB Nielsen Philippines' clients: Unilever Philippines, Procter and Gamble Philippines, Turner International, Solar Entertainment, Disney, Universal McCann, Ace Saatchi and Saatchi, plus GMA-7 and ABC5, among other companies. ABS-CBN used to be a client, but withdrew in December 2007, following objections to AGB-Nielsen's TV ratings' results.

AGB Nielsen Philippines now says that in Mega Manila, the rest of the top 10 slots last night were occupied by ABS-CBN's Iisa Pa Lamang (No. 6), topbilled by Claudine Barretto; ABS-CBN's Dyosa starring Anne Curtis and I Love Betty La Fea featuring Bea Alonzo (No. 7); ABS-CBN newscast TV Patrol World (No. 8); GMA-7's Family Feud hosted by Richard Gomez (No. 9); and the GMA-7 Koreanovela My Husband's Woman (No. 10).

Overall, seven Kapuso shows and four Kapamilya shows made it to the Top 10.

This was also the case last Friday, when seven GMA-7 shows took the first six slots while the rest of the Top 10 were occupied by ABS-CBN programs.

For that Friday, leading the pack was Gagambino with 33 percent. As stated earlier, 24 Oras and Survivor Philippines tied for second place with identical 32.8 percent ratings.

Kapuso shows Codename: Asero, La Lola, Bubble Gang, and Family Feud grabbed the No. 3 to the No. 6 slots. Now on its 13th year,GMA-7's Bubble Gang is considered the longest-running gag show in the country.

Taking the 7th to 10th spots are the Kapamilya shows I Love Betty La Fea, Iisa Pa Lamang, TV Patrol World, and Dyosa.

WEEKEND VIEWING. Still according to AGB Nielsen Philippines, among daytime weekday programs, the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga! took the top spot Friday, while the afternoon soap Gaano Kadalas ang Misan took the top spot Monday. Both shows are from the Kapuso network.

Mexicanovela Marimar ended last Friday at No. 6 with 16.9 percent. It was replaced by the rerun of Rosalinda, also starring Thalia. Rosalinda premiered yesterday at No. 5 with 17.6 percent. Both shows are also from the Kapuso network.

Eat Bulaga! was also the No. 1 daytime program on All Saints Day, November 1, with 23.7 percent. This was followed by Manny Pacquiao and Chris Tiu's Pinoy Records (18.8 percent), a Kapuso program. Then came Cesar Montano's The Singing Bee (17.5 percent), a Kapamilya program. Then came Vicky Morales's Wish Ko Lang (15.3 percent), from the Kapuso network. And finally, Willie Revillame's Wowowee (14.9 percent), a Kapamilya show.

Occupying the rest of the Top 10 are the GMA-7 showbiz talk show Startalk; the GMA-7 gag show Takeshi's Castle; ABS-CBN's Cinema FPJ; the ABS-CBN game show Pilipinas, Game KNB?; and the ABS-CBN showbiz talk program Entertainment Live.
