Add Luis Manzano's Flash Bomba to the growing family of Pinoy superheroes portrayed on television through ABS-CBN's weekend fantasy anthology series, Komiks Presents.
Dubbed as the "Superhero for all Seasons," Flash Bomba—like the others that were previously featured in the program—is a Mars Ravelo creation. Flash Bomba completes the much-anticipated Isang Lakas super team that the network is planning to put together in the future.
But Flash Bomba's character is unique.
Luis describes him as "Showbiz na superhero. Siya lang talaga ‘yong nagpapa-interview. Ang ibang superhero usually pagkatapos mag-rescue, alis na 'yan. Ito, mag-i-stay ako, magpapaunlak pa ako ng interview, magpapa-picture at sabi nga sa VTR, ako lang ‘yong [superhero na] nagpapa-fans day. Nai-enjoy ko ‘yong spotlight, na nagsisigawan ‘yong tao, so 'yon ang pinaka-difference niya."
Flash Bomba's press conference was held last Tuesday, January 27, at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN's compound.
ANGEL'S HERO. Although he is not comfortable being tagged as a hero in real life, Luis couldn't escape the observation raised by some people regarding a latest incident. Just recently, his girlfriend Angel Locsin was confined for dengue fever. It was actually Luis who convinced the morena actress to slow down and see a doctor to determine her real condition.
Luis narrated, "I was doing my usual routine, nagte-taping taping hanggang sa sabi nga niya, may fever. So akala ko naman, regular fever lang hanggang sa umaabot na pala ng nasa 40 na 39.9, and medyo she was getting dehydrated na. When I realized na wala akong nakikitang recovery I decided na sabihin sa kanya na, ‘Wala kang choice, I have to take you to the hospital.'" .
In spite of her recurring high fever, Angel was just taking it in stride but Luis was starting to feel anxious for her health.
Dahil I know she wasn't feeling well at may pagkatigas ng ulo nun, so hindi ko talaga siya binigyan ng choice. Sinabi ko talaga na kailangan niyang ma-confine."
SUPPORTIVE BOYFRIEND. Given his busy schedule, it was of course impossible for Luis to spend an entire day beside Angel's hospital bed.
"May mga certain commitments din ako. Pero right after work, I would be there hanggang gabi. Andun din naman 'yong buong family niya, kahit si Tito [Mr. Angel Colmenares, Angel's dad] pumunta, her mom, sister, lahat."
Angel was discharged from the hospital on January 27 and is now out of danger.
"Nakauwi na siya," Luis happily announced. "She still needs siguro mga one more week to fully recover, kasi iba din ‘yong pinagdaanan niya sa dengue dahil never ko siyang nakitang ganung hinang-hina."
Luis quickly dismissed the impression that perhaps he also paid for his girlfriend's hospital bill.
"Ano ako, sugar daddy?!" Luis retorted in jest.
Always the supportive boyfriend, the son of Vilma Santos and Edu Manzano stressed that he is not affected by all the negative issues that continue to hound the former Lobo lead star.
Turning serious, Luis said, "Nandiyan na ‘yong abort issue, nandyan na ‘yong nagpagawa ng bahay [Angel's house was allegedly shouldered by a rich admirer]. Everything has been thrown at her and she still remains on top.
"It goes to show na alam ng tao kung ano ang totoo at ano ang hindi. Kahit ano pang batikos na ibinabato sa kanya, kahit anong mga gawa-gawang kuwento, at the end of the day, she's still Angel Locsin. Ang dami pa ring nagmamahal at sumusuporta sa kanya. It only goes to show na alam ng tao kung ano talaga si Angel Locsin."
