Belo Medical Group declines to comment on latest customer lawsuit

Popular cosmetic surgeon Dr. Vicki Belo finds herself in hot water anew after a U.S.-based customer filed a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries against the Belo Medical Group. At press time, the company still refused to issue a formal statement.

The Belo Medical Group begged off from making any comment regarding the lawsuit for reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries filed against it by a U.S.-based customer.

"According to our legal counsel, Atty. Raymund Fortun, we cannot make any comment or issue any statement until the case has been filed. Thanks," read the text message sent by the company's representative to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) managing editor Karen Pagsolingan during the weekend.

The complainant, identified as Leila Palaganas from New Jersey, USA, claimed that she submitted to a facial cosmetic procedure last July 8, 2008, at a Makati City branch of the Belo clinic. She claimed to be horrified that, after the procedure, her face bloated.

Palaganas, through her lawyer Arnold Naval, named Dr. Vicki Belo, along with a certain Dr. Jennifer Sison, in her formal complaint at the Makati Prosecutor's Office.

A professional dermatologist and surgeon trained here and abroad, Dr. Vicki Belo's popularity is widely attributed to her company's marketing strategy of tapping popular celebrities as endorsers to represent its offered services. Celebrities widely associated with the Belo Medical Group include Regine Velasquez, Sarah Geronimo, Dingdong Dantes, Lucy Torres-Gomez, Claudine Barretto, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Piolo Pascual, among others.
