On Francis Magalona's 40th day after death next week, his wife Pia Magalona and their children will hold a private gathering. According to Pia in her text message to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the occasion will begin with a mass, then dinner and a program.
This confirmed what she previously told PEP about putting up a program privately with Francis's fellow musicians. Pia related at the time how many musician friends her husband had gained while he was still alive. "Sobrang dami, madami talaga."
Pia and Francis's children have become close to some of her husband's friends and colleagues, she said.
"They've also touched base with the friends, they grouped up with friends of Franz. So, parang nabigyan sila ng teaching while growing up. I want them na malaman nila [about Kiko's friends] kasi, di ba, like right now, people come up to my children say, 'O, kaibigan ako ng dad mo', and my children are very also well-bred, they'll welcome anyone also."
Pia thinks that this special program will be a good way for Francis's fellow musicians to have a "chance to perform and say something they want say to me or to the family."
FRANCIS M FOUNDATION. Recently, there were talks about concerts abroad in memory of the late King of Pinoy Rap. For one of these "tribute concerts," the organizers claimed that the proceeds will be donated to Francis Magalona's Foundation. Pia denied that so-called foundation. In PEP's interview together with other entertainment reporters, Pia said that they don't really plan to put up a foundation in the name of Francis. However, she said, "If somebody approaches me maybe and says that they have a plan, I can be the face of it and all. Pero I'm really not, you know, I'm really very devoted lang talaga to my children kasi."
Pia explained that she needs to focus on her children, "I think it's not wrong for me to do that kasi I think naman that what is important is how you affect other people here while you're on the earth. And I think, as a mother, my biggest responsibility is to bring up good citizen."
THE SICKOS PROJECT. Before Francis passed away, he already mentioned in his personal blog about the music album he was doing with former Eraserheads member Ely Buendia. This collaborative project was called The Sickos Project. (Click here to read related article)
Pia said that there are still plans to release the album, only that they still have to focus on more important things right now. Also, "We [with Ely] really have to sit down and really plan it well, hindi puwedeng madaliin yun."
She also clarified that even though Francis is already gone, her late husband and Ely aready created enough songs for the album.
"I don't think we're gonna go with other artists," said Pia. "I don't think Ely or Francis will like that, madami naman na silang na-compile. Kasi it's like some of the songs are in collaboration with each other, pero they agree that some of the songs will be them with their respective bands—Ely and [his band] Pupil and then Francis with Hardware Syndrome, which is his band, di ba?"
Francis's widow reiterated in the end, "Marami na ring songs kasi yung iba niyang songs na ginawa, dapat sa ibang album. Pero since wala na [siya], you can't record, I'll just have to put them together into this collaboration album."
