Sid Lucero is going to Cannes

Sid Lucero is proud represent his film, La Independencia, one of three Pinoy films taking part in the filmfest. That's the happiest feeling," the actor said.

"Not just one, but three local films made it to Cannes," sabi ni Sid. "Kahit sabihin pang not for competition or competing, ang importante, naroroon yung tatlong local films. We're from a Third World country, but actually, we can make a mark. Our industry may be so young compared to other countries, but we're getting noticed. What makes me proud is that I'm part of a project which is in competition.

"I'm being invited, at ang concern ko lang, I'm Pinoy and I'm going to Cannes. That's the happiest feeling," patuloy ni Sid.

THE SON ALSO RISES. Never na-imagine ni Sid na sa pagpasok niya sa showbiz, isang araw, tutungo siya sa pamosong Cannes Film Festival to represent the country.

"The happiest part of my job is the job itself," sabi pa ni Sid. "Naisip ko lang, noong early '80s, my dad (Mark Gil) was a part of Batch '81 which was sent to Cannes. Hindi ko naisip na mauulit yun sa akin, that I will be brought to Cannes because I'm a part of a film for competition.

"Hindi naman ito ang first time na napasali ang film na kasama ako sa cast. Donsol was brought to Japan, Tambolista is going somewhere else. I think sa Geneva, Switzerland. In Greece, Selda competed in a festival there.

He feels happy and good for the whole industry.

"We're doing well, actually," sabi pa ng aktor.

RUBBING ELBOWS. Ang unang pumasok sa utak niya pag makarating na siya sa Cannes—to meet all the director and actors.

"I'm a big fan of Michel Gondry (director of The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind)," sabi ni Sid. "Kilala siya sa kanyang music videos. I just have followed his career. I think Quentin Tarantino will be in Cannes, too. These are the people na nasundan ko ang works nila, at napanood ko talaga," patuloy niya.

Sa ganitong mga pagkakataon, we can't help but be awed by Sid's artistic passion.

"This is what I love. Gusto ko itong ginagawa ko, and all possible influences, pinag-aaralan ko rin.

"Interesado rin ako behind the cameras. If I'm not acting, ano ang ginagawa ko? I'm working as [part of the] Art Department. Puwede rin as PD [production designer] or director. I just love every aspect of it. I can't imagine not working in films," natatawang sabi ni Sid.

I'm going there alone, but I'm going to meet directors there. Adolf Alix is going there for Manila. Dante Mendoza will also be there for another local film titled Kinatay.
