Ruby Rodriguez debunks rumors that she and husband Mark Aquino have separated

TV viewers who have been watching Eat Bulaga! for years have grown familiar with the hyper and ageless funny woman Ruby Rodriguez. Recently though, the lively EB co-host has been absent and speculations have escalated from trivial to shocking.

Eat Bulaga! viewers have enjoyed the games and antics from the Dabarkads but something is amiss. Longtime co-host Ruby Rodriguez has been absent for a while now and speculations have reached major proportions.

Major in the sense that she and husband of 13 years, Mark Aquino, have supposedly called it quits. Such a rumor should not be left unanswered and Showbiz Central was able to get the real deal when they visited Ruby at the opening of Zirkoh Comedy Var on T. Morato Ave., Quezon City.

There, a laughing Ruby debunked rumors, saying, "Ayan, o, katabi ko [asawa ko]. Hayaan mo, masaya naman ang tsismis, e!"

On another note, was her absence made possible due to rumors that she auditioned for The Biggest Loser Asia?

"May problema ako sa likod, e, kaya nawala ako," Ruby revealed. "Nagte-therapy ako kasi mayroon akong herniated disc, so requirement ng doctor na pumayat ako. Kung hindi, lalagyan ako ng metal sa likod.

"Pag malupit o matagal na tayuan, e, may lumbar support akong sinusuot. Every night, may iniinom akong gamot for the pain and for the relaxing of the muscles and for my radiculopathy—iyong naipit iyong lumbar nerve ko. Nararamdaman ko iyong pain hanggang ilalim, hanggang paa. Mararamdaman mo ang pain, masakit."

(Radiculopathy, according to answers.com, refers to disease of the spinal nerve roots. It produces pain, numbness, or weakness radiating from the spine.)

Has this pain been going on a long time?

"Matagal na," admitted Ruby. "Hindi ko lang pinapansin, siyempre iniisip ko lang na makulit, kakasayaw, ganyan. Noong sobrang sakit na, e, nagpa-checkup ako. MRI, lahat."

Ruby added that it is not true that she would remain absent in Eat Bulaga!. But her schedule on the daily show was cut to three appearances every week.

"Dati every day ang therapy ko, ngayon three times a week na lang," she smiled.

Aside from her stint in EB, has Ruby considered doing more stand-up comedy now that she has more time?

"Sabi ko nga kay Allan [K], na I'd love to do it again, but hindi ko kaya ang every night," she said. "Pero hindi ko kaya ang every night. Kailangan din kasi 'yong sa umaga, you make sure na they're [kids] up and siyempre mayroon kang Eat Bulaga! With EB, number one sa puso ko, so pag puyat-puyat ka, e, ang hirap. So, kailangan mo ng energy!"
