Actress Princess Violago admitted in her interview with Showbiz Central that her mom, Bootsie Violago, was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer—the same type of cancer that former President Cory Aquino had.
"Ako 'yong nakasagot noong phone noong morning. My dad called me and said na may cancer mama ko. Hindi ako makapaniwala. Ako ang unang nakaalam. Hindi ko akalain na ganoon ang pangyayari. Parang we have everything na a person can wish, tapos ganoon ang nangyari," the teary-eyed Princess said.
Princess, a Kapuso talent, added that she lives a comfortable life but her world crashed when she learned about her mom's condition.
"July 4 lang namin nalaman," she added. "Akala ko wala lang kasi sumasakit daw ang tiyan niya. Ako ang nagsabi sa kuya ko at sa ate ko. I mean, ako iyong bunso kaya hindi ko alam kung paano ko dapat sabihin sa kuya ko."
Mrs. Violago herself was surprised knowing that she now has to fight for her life, being the first cancer patient in her family. She said that what started out as a simple pain in the stomach turned serious.
"Sumakit ang tiyan ko. Iyon, that's it. They found out nga so they required me to have chemotherapy. Buti nga hindi nalalagas ang buhok ko, e," Mrs. Violago said.
Princess revealed, however, that her mom's hair was partly falling from the back side of her head. This is something she wouldn't tell her mom, she said, so as not to add to the situation that her mother is going through.
As if the condition of her mom were not enough, Princess also revealed that her dad has health issues as well. "Nag-o-oxygen mask siya every night. Na-ICU siya three times last year," she said.
Princess, who has everything she can wish for, realized that one event can ultimately change her and her outlook in life.
"We get by anything. Actually now na-realize ko na sino totoo sa akin. Iyong mga nagdadasal kay Mama, nakita ko ang totoong kaibigan namin. Parang nag-transform iyong... I don't know, I think it's a turning point of their lives na parang realization na tina-try lang kami ni God na maging matibay," Princess said.
This is probably the biggest trial Princess has to go through in her life, and she knows deep in her heart that she has to stay strong for her family's sake.
"Pinapalakas ko siya [her mom]," she said. "Nanghihina kasi siya, so sinasabi ko na masaya ang buhay!"
Mom Bootsie commented on her daughter's dedication in keeping her company always. "Hindi na siya naggi-gimmick. Every time na nakikita ko siya na ganyan, I'm really proud of her. Malaki pinagbago niya. I love you, anak. For me, you're still a big, big star."
