It was a busy Sunday, November 22, for actor Dingdong Dantes.
Straight from a mall tour to promote his personal line of perfume marketed by local retail giant, Bench, Dingdong made his way to the Risen Garden of Quezon City Hall to personally launch Ayos Na! The organization was reportedly founded by the actor himself to serve as a venue for young volunteers across the nation to pledge their support for Sen. Noynoy Aquino in the 2010 presidential elections.
The young voters are highly regarded as the biggest voting block in the coming 2010 polls.
The event gathered young volunteers from different areas around the country. Young members of the Aquino family were also present, including Noynoy's girlfriend Valenzuela City councilor Shalani Soledad, along with officials representing various sectors of society.
Dingdong led the volunteers in pledging their commitment to the Senator's platform and goals.
WHOLEHEARTED SUPPORT. Dingdong was a personal choice of the Aquinos to endorse Noynoy's presidential bid. Actress-host Kris Aquino made no secret of her family's desire to recruit Dingdong for her brother's campaign right from the beginning.
"Napakalaking sector ng tinatawag nating Generation Next. In fact they hold most of the voting population of the youth, so malaking bagay ang boses nila. So the advocacy is to help them make the right decision so that's what we are trying to do," Dingdong told the entertainment press backstage after leading the pledge-of-support ceremony.
Dingdong stressed that the group is more than just a campaign tool. Although they are obviously affiliated with a particular political figure, he explained, the vision of the organization centers mainly on the welfare of the young people and their significance to the nation as a whole.
"Kaya nga na-i-inspire ako dahil pupuwede namang wala akong gawin, e, pupuwede namang nasa bahay lang ako. Pero ang sa akin, I believe na we are inspired for a reason and I just want to be active in my obligation as a citizen na marinig kung anong gusto kong sabihin."
He added that the group will go on regardless of how the presidential race turns out after the final election tally.
"It's an advocacy and it will remain forever because paniniwala 'yan, hindi nilunsad mo tapos kung hindi naging successful ititigil mo na. Isa siyang advocacy, like ako rin maaaring dati ko pa siyang gustong gawin pero ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng chance at ng privilege dahil ngayon ko lang nakilala 'tong mga taong ito. Dati if I were to do it by myself or on my own hindi ko magagawa," explained the Stairway to Heaven lead star.
Lending his name and time to the endeavor, however, doesn't mean that Dingdong is gearing himself up to join politics in the future.
"Ako I'd rather be a normal citizen and enjoy the privileges of a fair society... Mas gusto ko 'yong relax lang," Dingdong told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in closing.
