Actress Tanya Garcia finally realized her childhood dream last Saturday, March 27, with the formal opening of her salon business, Alcutraz, at the second level of Metrowalk Commercial Complex in Ortigas, Pasig City.
Tanya recalled standing in front of the mirror while "putting makeup using my mother's cosmetics" when she was a little girl. That fondness and passion eventually stayed with Tanya growing up.
The young actress instinctively knew what type of business to go into during the time she was seriously considering a venture outside showbiz. Tanya took up a Salon Management and Makeup Artistry crash course at the Australian College of Hair Design and Beauty to make her better equipped for the task on hand.
"Actually, it was just 72 hours," said Tanya to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal), pertaining to the duration of the course.
But it was fairly enough, added Tanya, for her to at least grasp the nature of the beauty business.
Tanya said she will try her best to attend to the salon's everyday operations, which will not be easy since she is now based in Pampanga together with boyfriend Mark Lapid and their two-year-old daughter Mischa.
Speaking of Mark, Tanya said the former Pampanga governor fully encourages her every endeavor. "Ever since naman napaka-supportive niya sa lahat ng ginagawa ko," said Tanya about Mark. "Nandito nga siya ngayon sa blessing so that says a lot."
Will she be throwing the same kind of support to Mark's father, former action star-turned-politician Lito Lapid, who is currently running for re-election in the senate?
"No, no, I won't be campaigning," replied Tanya, who's currently three months pregnant with her second child with Mark.
Tanya's delicate condition makes it impossible for her to travel and participate in Lito's campaign sortie. Tanya's taking a complete rest came directly from her doctor.
"Bawal sa akin ang lumabas-labas muna. Dapat daw sa akin bed rest muna," Tanya said of her doctor's order.
