A documentary-drama on the late Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. will compete in the 6th Aljazeera International Documentary Film Festival to be held in Doha, Qatar this April.
Unico Entertainment's film titled The Last Journey of Ninoy is nominated for the Al Jazeera Golden Award. The festival will run from April 19 to 22.
The Last Journey of Ninoy will compete against entries from Russia and Turkey, the two countries being the festival's guests of honor. The winner in the Medium Film category will take home a trophy and cash prize of QR20,000 (approximately PhP246,907).
Directed by Jun Reyes and starring Bam Aquino as the slain politician, The Last Journey of Ninoy is a mix of news footages and reenacted flashbacks describing the last 48 hours of Ninoy Aquino before he was assassinated on August 21, 1983.
Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino is the son of Ninoy's younger brother, Paul Aquino.
Last March, the film earned a nomination in the Documentary category of the 2010 New York Festivals Television and Film Awards.
