Diether Ocampo celebrated his birthday in advance together with the beneficiaries of K.I.D.S (Kabataang Inyong Dapat Suportahan) Foundation.
The Kapamilya actor who's celebrating his birthday today, July 19, treated the children to a movie date yesterday, July 18, at Ali Mall in Cubao, Quezon City before proceeding to a Pizza Hut branch in SM Cubao.
"Nag-suggest lang ako na I wanted sana to spend an entire afternoon with the kids and nag-iisip ako kung ano 'yong puwede naming gawin, and then naisip nila [the K.I.D.S Foundation team] 'Uy, may bagong movie [The Sorcerer's Apprentice]. Baka magustugan nila.' Sabi ko, 'Kailangan pambata para enjoy lahat.' So, talagang timing naman na merong pelikulang pambata," Diether told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other entertainment reporters.
The young participants in yesterday's special activity came from different locations.
"'Yong iba diyan galing Bulacan, meron din kaming galing dun sa sinuportahan namin sa Gawad Kalinga na community, sila 'yong nag-benefit dun sa feeding program namin... Basta mga karatig-pook lang. 'Yong iba, galing ng Quezon City. But this coming weekend, we'll be in Bacolor, Pampanga and we're hoping to treat at least mga 1,000 to 2,000 kids. Of course, marami tayong mga kaibigan diyan kasi nanay ko Kapampangan rin, so marami rin tayong supporters ng K.I.D.S Foundation diyan," said Diether.
BIRTHDAY WISH. Diether has been very active in personally carrying out the projects and activities of the foundation he himself put up back in 2006.
"Masaya 'pag nakikita ko na ganyan masaya sila, kasi it keeps you grounded. And parang it brings back memories na parang sa akin, na-realize ko kung saan ako nanggaling. And ngayon na nandito na ako, iba na 'yong role na ginagampanan ko. Siyempre, malaking responsibilidad and it's about time for me to share my blessings dahil siyempre, importante rin na hindi lang tayo kabig nang kabig, pero at least we're able to share especially dun sa mga less fortunate children.
"Mas fulfilling 'yong ganun and that gives me so much inspiration dahil itong mga bata 'to, kung hindi dahil sa kanila, hindi ko ulit makikita 'yong gana sa mga ginagawa ko kasi nakakapagod din somehow," said Diether, who is currently seen in ABS-CBN's primetime series Rubi and is part of Regal Entertainment's upcoming anniversary offering, Mamarazzi.
Diether also said that he remains uncertain on whether he will hold a separate birthday celebration this time for his showbiz and non-showbiz friends.
NO TO PERSONAL QUESTIONS. The actor refused to entertain personal questions, particularly those pertaining to ex-wife Kristine Hermosa and her supposed plan to tie the knot with fellow actor Oyo Sotto.
But he gave a short comment about the issue in an interview with ABS-CBN entertainment reporter Mario Dumaual following his arrival here in Manila from Ireland a couple of days ago.
"Wala naman akong ibang hangad kundi siyempre maging maayos ang pagsasama nila. And congratulations in advance," said Diether.
Diether and Kristine got married in Nueva Ecija in 2004. The Court of Appeals, however, issued an order in 2009 declaring the union "null and void."
Kristine eventually found a new love in Oyo Sotto while Diether is currently dating model Rima Ostwani.
