Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown's third outcast, Buhawi "Buwi" Meneses, doesn't mind the not-so-good comments he has been receiving from the show's audience.
The Magan "Tribe Leader" Buhawi (which literally means "strong wind" or "cyclone" in Tagalog) says he reads all the comments posted on the fan page of Survivor Philippines in Facebook and even the comments here in PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
He maintains that he doesn't mind the fans' sometimes violent reactions or comments.
PEP attended the pocket presscon given recently by the GMA Corporate Communications group for Buhawi and Myka Flores, Buhawi's co-Magan tribe member who was voted out a week before him.
SURVIVOR WANNABE FROM THE START. Only a few people know that Buhawi auditioned in the first season of Survivor Philippines, then hosted by Paolo Bediones.
(Incidentally, Buhawi's first-born son is named Zephyr, meaning "light wind" in Greek.)
Buwi was not given the chance to be part of the show's first group of castaways, but the production team kept his file for future reference. When the celebrity edition came up, he was among the first to be interviewed and accepted.
After being voted out (he is the third Magan member and the fourth castaway to leave) on Day 11 of the show, Buwi stayed 12 days on an island off Ranong, Thailand, and a few days more in Bangkok before returning to Manila.
Life returns to normal, according to Buwi—getting back to his family, his band, and his music. After a hiatus during the time Buwi left to join Survivor, Parokya ni Edgar is back in the gig circuit and is about to launch its newest album within the next two weeks.
BUWI EXPLAINS HIS ACTIONS. Being part of Survivor Philippines is the experience of a lifetime for Buwi. He will never forget it, he said.
Never mind if the fans of the hit reality show are very much against him, especially for his first act of voting out Doc Ferdz Recio in the second tribal council.
"So many things are happening in the island," explains Buwi.
"But at the start of the tribe, I feel mabigat siyang dalhin. He's a born leader and it is in his nature na. It was given to me, so, gusto kong pangatawanan yun. Pero at the start pa lang, when we were given our map, habang binabasa naming lahat, kinuha niya ito to read. That wasn't shown [on TV].
"Then there are little things. Nakagat siya ng langgam, medyo nagkasakit siya. Kapag nagugutom siya, tumatahimik. 'Tapos nagka-physical injury pa. And this is all at the start of the game pa lang.
"During the tribal council, nang sinabi na ni Richard [Gutierrez] na ako lang ang boboto, tiningnan ko si Mama El [Elma Muros], nginunguso niya si Doc Ferdz. So, there's me, and Myka na ka-alliance ko na, at si Mama El nga—and that's three na."
Had this scenario been played out, Doc Ferdz would indeed have three votes. Mico Aytona and Solenn Heussaff might have voted for Myka, and that's only two votes.
But, yes, Buhawi was surprised that it was him who was voted out in the last tribal council.
In hindsight, he admits it could be his alliance with Myka and his decision to vote out Doc Ferdz that led to his being cast out himself. On the other tribal decisions, Buwi has his explanation.
Of course, kung nandoon pa si Doc Ferdz, he could do it siguro, dahil physical ito. Pero wala na nga siya, so, we will never know."
But why not him, even if Elma did offer to take the burden, literally and figuratively?
Pero that was before hindi pa nabubuksan ang takip. 'Tapos nakita namin, scorpions. Ito ang kinakain ni Solenn. Noong unang part ng challenge, may nagsabi, 'Si Solenn na lang,' and she agreed, kaya siya ang inilaban namin," relates Buwi.
We commented that in the televised episode, it seemed that Mico was also raring to go. But Buwi said Mico never offered himself.
BUWI'S BET. With 12 castaways still vying for the three-million-peso prize, Buwi will just be like everyone else—an excited fan waiting for the one to be judged the first Survivor Philippines Celebrity Showdown winner.
Who's his bet to win? Buwi picks Aira but also goes for Solenn.
Just for the record, Myka's personal choice to win is Ian, but thinks Ervic Vijandre will be the winner in Survivor.
