To say that Pinoys love television is an understatement.
We breathe and live TV.
Only in the Philippines are people divided into factions because of their obsession with television. For instance, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) has discovered that a lot of PEPsters' comments can transform a seemingly simple topic into a network war. Kapamilya vs. Kapuso.
It is also in this county where TV moments become national events of a majestic or tragic scope. Who can forget the near hysteria of TV viewers across Metro Manila when a final episode of ABS-CBN's Pangako Sa 'Yo was delayed due to a technical glitch? The incident even made primetime news the following day.
Or who can forget the lives that perished at what should've been the first anniversary of Wowowee at the Ultra Stadium? Or the lives that TV put in danger because of its unbridled, continued live coverage of a hostage situation last August?
Because TV has such a big influence on the lives of Filipinos, PEP has decided to list down the biggest TV moments—annually.
In 2009, we recognized moments like the live coverage of former President Corazon Aquino's funeral, the cute Bulilit commercial, and Tayong Dalawa's top-rating finale.
This year, we turn the spotlight on the premiere of a controversial game-and-variety show, the announcement of the ending of a celebrity marriage, an announcement of a new marriage, and many more.
