Denise Laurel says the father of her child is an Italian-American

When asked if she wants to settle down with the father of her child, Denise Laurel says, "Before I got pregnant, we gave each other a two-year timeline [before getting married]. Then I realized I want to see how we are as parents first."

Denise Laurel, who is slated to turn 24 years old on September 30, has finally admitted that she has a four-month-old son.

The actress showed off her sexy figure in figure-hugging dress, leaving no signs that she gave birth to a baby boy during the last week of April.

Denise was one of the special guests during the Thelma premiere held last night, September 4, at SM Megamall.

Select members of the press, including PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) were able to talk to the former star of Kristine as she narrated anecdotes about giving birth.

ITALIAN-AMERICAN FATHER. Denise clarified that she gave birth here in the Philippines since "gusto ko kasi Filipino citizen ang anak ko."

The actress also revealed that the father of her child is an Italian-American, but she did not disclose his name nor did she disclose the name of their son.

When asked if he’s a basketball player, the actress replied, "Maybe, maybe not. Joke!"

"Hindi, ’wag na ’yon. Hindi naman siya artista, so I don’t really wanna involve him. Ako na lang."

She says of their arrangements: "We make time to see each other. We travel in and out [of the country]. Sometimes I travel to go to him. [He’s] traveling... paiba-iba yung country ng work niya depending on the season."

Was the father of her child with her when she was giving birth?

"Ay, hindi," said Denise.

"Kung nandun siya, makikita siya ng mga tao, e, ang tangkad-tangkad niya.

"I wanted it to be very private."

Are they still together?

"Yes, of course," she answered.

"Before I found out that I was pregnant, before he left here for the first time, he went to my house and asked my dad if he could marry me.

"My dad said, ’Wait first. Give it two years or a little bit more.’ Nag-bonding naman sila ng family ko.

"He asked me again to marry him when he found out that I was pregnant.

"And I said that I wanted to see how we would be as parents. We’re working on it and I said that my number one priority is our son."

For now, Denise says that she is not yet prepared to settle down.

"It’s hard to say [if and when they will get married] because my number one priority is our son and it should be his priority as well.

"Para naman if we do get married, he can take care of the serious stuff and I can take care of the stuff that will spoil our son."

How long have they been a couple?

"Naku, pinahirapan ko muna siya bago naging kami. I made him have a hard time!" she said with a laugh.

"Wala pa namang years kami together, pero he made me ligaw talaga and for a foreigner, hindi naman uso sa kanila ang manligaw.

"Mga six or seven months [siya nanligaw.]

"He was really sincere and he even wrote a letter to my parents."

Denise also prefers not to show her son to the public for now.

"Ako, if I could, I want to show him off... he’s so cute. Pero maybe when he’s four or five years old, pag nakakasalita na siya."

What characteristics did her son inherit from her and the father?

"He has Laurel eyes, yung shape ng mata niya sa Laurel.

"Yung kulay ng mata, sa side ng mom ko na Spanish, kasi yung mata niya gray.

"Yung built ng katawan [sa father], yung lips, hati kami. Yung hair niya dark blonde, parang ash light brown.

"Kahit saan ko siya dalhin, hindi na ako pinapansin. Yung anak ko na lang kasi he’s so cute."

BIRTHING PAINS. Denise recalls that she initially wanted to give birth naturally, but she had to undergo a caesarean delivery when she suddenly developed allergies.

"That was my dream [give birth naturally], kasi mas payat pa ako when I was pregnant. Pag nakatalikod ako, hindi mo na kita.

"Last minute ang C-section kasi I had an allergic reaction to something.

"I couldn’t walk for two weeks. Hindi ako makahinga, hindi ako makasalita kasi allergic reaction, so namaga ang esophagus ko."

How did she lose weight?

"I had a strict diet coz I wanted my baby to be healthy.

"As much possible no preservatives, no fast food, no oily food, and I ate lots of fruits and vegetables. And nothing fried, just boiled, steamed, and grilled."

She says with a smile: "Siya rin [her son] ang nakatulong sa ’kin na mag-workout kasi ang bigat niya!"

RETURN TO SHOWBIZ. Why did it take her so long to admit her real condition?

"I was trying to find... I have a certain way of handling things. I’m not basta-basta.

"I handle things very delicately, at the right time, at the right place.

"I just wanted things to happen at the right time."

Why did she cry when she admitted on The Buzz that she gave birth to a son? (CLICK HERE to read related article.)

"You know what, I’m happy. Nagulat na lang ako kasi nadala ako.

"I promised that I wasn’t going to cry coz there’s nothing to cry about."

Denise mentioned that she shot her scenes for Maalaala Mo Kaya two weeks ago. The episode was aired last Saturday, September 3.

Are there plans for her to star in another ABS-CBN teleserye?

"Surprise na lang," she simply said.
