(CLICK HERE to read related story.)
Paliwanag naman ni Shamcey sa kanyang kakaibang pagrampa, "One of my trainors couldn’t speak English. So, Spanish lang.
"He only knew ’fear,’ ’catwalk,’ and ’tsunami.’
"He always tells me, ’There are 89 other candidates...’ And parang, ’You have to... naka-alon or wave.
THE PAGEANT.
"During that time, even before they announced the winner, to be in the Top 5, I don’t know... I was in heaven. I was on cloud nine.
"I was already happy and I said, I think I brought honor to the country already.
"Whatever happens, I’ll just leave it all up to God.
"Sabi ko, I’m just gonna be there, be happy, and enjoy the moment.
"And I was looking at all the people waving Philippine flags and placards, doon ako naka-focus.
"I wasn’t thinking about the ranking," saad niya.
Habang kinakabahan, may mga naririnig at nakikita ba siya from the audience?
"Parang ganoon po... When I was there, I couldn’t feel anything. Numb," sabi ng 25-year-old beauty queen.
Sino ang naging mahigpit niyang kalaban among the candidates?
"I think everyone," sagot niya.
"Hindi ko nga alam. Lahat sila, kapag nakikita ko, they are all beautiful.
"Si Miss China, she’s so tall. When I’m with her, palagi akong naka-gano’n [nakatingala]."
Ganun nga ba ang pakiramdam niya that time?
"Yes, sabi ko nga, it can be seen on my face. Whatever I feel, I couldn’t hide it.
"So, I was really, really surprised every time," sabi ni Shamcey.
"Oh, that’s a good question!" natatawa niyang sabi.
"I didn’t want it for me. If it was just for me, no.
"But it was for the Philippines that I did it.
"And they always tell me, it wasn’t my dream to become a beauty queen.
"But when I was there, they didn’t call me ’Shamcey.’ They called me ’Philippines.’
"So, I said, this is for my countrymen.
"And I’m going to do my best.
"I wanna make the whole world proud na Filipino tayo. Magaling tayo."
THE CONTROVERSIES.
"I respect her [Lea] decision. I do," sabi niya.
"Kasi, they are judges. And they have their own preferences.
"And I’ve said before, beauty is not definite. We define it and each person has his or her own definition of beauty.
"And if that’s what she thinks is beautiful and that’s her preference, lahat tayo, we should respect each other.
"Kasi, she was a judge for a reason. And we should respect her for that.
"Kaya parang right ’yan to vote, di ba? I won’t tell you, ’Why did you vote for this?’
"It’s your right, it’s your choice, [and I] respect it.
"So, I respect her and I’m happy. "
"Sa akin kasi, it varies, e.
"It’s more of how you feel about yourself and how you make people happy. Not just yourself.
"It’s more of being able to make others feel beautiful themselves by your kindness.
"How you treat people. Having a beautiful soul.
"I think that what makes a person beautiful."
Kung nagkataon na isa sa mga judge si Shamcey, would she also make Miss Angola win?
"During that time, I don’t know talaga. Wala talaga akong nararamdaman.
"I wasn’t even thinking kung sino ang mga kasama ko sa Top 5," sabi niya.
Wala bang mga suplada among the Miss Universe candidates?
"Wala," mabilis niyang sagot.
"Sabi nga, this one ang pinakamagandang set of girls.
"Wala talagang anything. Walang conflict. Walang away. Walang problema.
"And aside sa magaganda, very successful with their own careers. And matatalino."
THE QUESTIONS. Kung sakaling tanungin siya uli ngayon, would Shamcey answer the same sa tanong na: "Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love?"
"It would be the same," sagot niya.
"I would say, I wouldn’t marry that person because I believe you should love God first.
"They always say ’Seek Him first and all these things shall be added unto you.’
"So, I believe in a relationship centered in God.
"And after that, Siya yung umpisa ng lahat. Kung wala Siya, wala tayong lahat dito."
Dagdag pa ni Shamcey, "Ang question is religious... I don’t think it’s religion per se. It’s more on having a personal relationship with God."
If you could trade lives with anyone in history, who would it be and why?
Shamcey: "I would say, Jose Rizal. I don’t know... it sounds cliché, but I’ve read through his diaries and the fact that he knew he was gonna die, he just kept on because he knew it’s gonna be for his country, and he made a great impact to get our democracy."
Question to Miss China: Nude beaches are common in some parts of the world. Is public nudity appropriate or inappropriate and why?
Shamcey: "The concept of right and wrong, it varies in different cultures.
"And what I’ve learned in Miss Universe pageant is that we all come from different cultures with different beliefs.
"And the only thing we can do is to respect each other.
"So, if it’s appropriate for them, then let’s respect it.
"But for the Philippines, I don’t think... I don’t know if it’s gonna be the same for us.
"So, we just have to respect each other, don’t judge."
Question to Miss Brazil: What will you do to avoid fighting a war that you don’t agree with?
Shamcey: "I heard that now... Because during that time, I wasn’t listening to the questions anymore. I was just happy. I was just looking at the people.
"But I don’t know how to answer that question... I would just say that war was never a solution and that everything can be done through a lot of communication, diplomacy.
"And I always say this: the conflict, you just have to respect.
"Sometimes, you just have to control yourself and know that there’s a better way than just fighting a war because nobody will win.
"There’s always gonna be someone who will lose in a war."
Question to Miss Angola: If you could change one of your physical characteristics, which one would it be and why?
Shamcey: "I wouldn’t change anything. But if ever, I’m gonna make it comic, like I would change my feet because they’re too big and it’s hard to find shoes in my size!"
BEAUTY CONTESTS. When she was in Brazil, wala bang nagparamdam sa kanya?
"Wala naman po akong napapansin. And we were very secure," sabi niya.
"In a capitalist world, everything becomes a commodity, di ba?
"But it’s how we look at it. It’s perspective.
"Kasi, you can always say you’re just selling this, you’re just selling that.
"But it’s more of your attitude, it’s more of your outlook that we have to change," sagot ni Shamcey.
Kung naging bulaklak siya, ano siya?
"Wow! Sampaguita. Kasi, simbolo ng pagiging isang Filipina. Maputi kasi pure and mabango."
Kung isa siyang ulam, ano kaya siya?
"Oh, my gosh! Ulam? I would be adobo.
But, yun ang una kong kinain na Filipino food when I got back from L.A."
SHAMCEY’S BOYFRIEND. Sa pagbabalik ng The Buzz after the commercial break, more on sa personal na buhay ni Shamcey ang mga naging katanungan ni Boy sa kanya.
Tulad halimbawa ng kanyang lovelife, kung saan marami ang napahanga dahil sa pagiging honest niya about telling the public that, yes, she indeed has a boyfriend and is in a relationship. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)
Pero paano ito nakaapekto sa boyfriend ni Shamcey na si Lloyd Lee that she is very open about their relationship?
"No, I think it’s better to be honest and truthful," sabi niya.
"He’s more prepared than I was," mabilis nitong sagot.
"Because I didn’t have that belief in myself that I’m gonna be in this position. And he has that faith in me."
Gaano ka-secure ang boyfriend niya sa kanya?
"He is secure kasi we have centered our relationship with God."
PROUD TO BE A FILIPINO. What makes her proud to be a Filipino?
"I’ve always been proud," sambit niya.
"I always say to people na magagaling tayong mga Pinoy. We have a lot of people who have achieved a lot and who we should be proud of.
"I think, it’s only us who look down on ourselves.
"I think we can do something big, just given the chance.
"And kaya ako, proud ako na Pinoy.
Dugtong pa niya, "The only thing that’s stopping us is ourselves. Sabi nga nila, no one will step on you unless you’re lying on the ground."
