Senator Bong Revilla on proposed film fest dedicated to action films: "It’s a good proposal but walang producer na maglalakas-loob na gumawa ng action films."

Senator Bong Revilla had a minor accident on the set of Panday 2.

"Yung isang-taong aso, nahagip ako. Akala ko durog ang mata ko, e. Buti nga hindi pumasok sa mata ko ang kuko niya," the actor-politician explains how he was injured. "Kasama sa trabaho yun, e. Natatamaan tayo, nabubukulan, napuputukan."

Key scenes of Panday 2 were being shot in Tanay, Rizal, when PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) paid a visit to the set to interview the cast last night, September 29.

The location known as Lizardo’s lair was decked like a skull-shaped cave. As if on cue, Senator Bong Revilla walked in, wearing the maroon costume of Ang Panday.

He had a small bump above his right eye. The actor-politician revealed he had an accident earlier that day.

"Akala ko nga magpa-pack up na ako," he said. "Kanina pulang-pula ang mata ko."

According to director Mac Alejandre, they have completed almost 90 percent of Panday 2. This action-fantasy film is one of the eight entries competing in this year’s Metro Manila Film Fest.

When asked about the budget of Panday 2, Senator Bong said the movie’s production cost is 30 percent more than the first film.

REVIVING ACTION FLICKS. Senator Lito Lapid recently suggested the revival of the Metro Manila Film Festival which was held in June every year. However, the senator suggested the film fest feature only action movies.

What does Senator Bong think of this proposal?

"It’s a good proposal but walang producer na maglalakas-loob na gumawa ng action films," he said.

"On a regular play date nga, takot na sila, e. Ang feeling nila, walang action film na kumikita, except ang Metro Manila Film Fest entries.

"Siguro, ang focus muna natin ngayon ang mag-experiment. Ibalik natin muli unti-unti ang interes. Ang feeling kasi ng ibang producers, pag gumawa ka ng action film, masyadong mahal.

"It’s a minimum of P25 million to P50 million, ganun kalaki ang gastos. High-risk para sa kanila, so dapat maengganyo muna sila.

"Yung hardcore action-drama wala pa, pero mag-a-attempt kami. Nagpaplano na kami, ang Imus Productions."

NARDONG PUTIK. Senator Bong also revealed his plans to do a remake of Nardong Putik.

The life story of Leonardo Manecio, known as the "Robin Hood of Cavite," was brought to life on the big screen in 1972 and 1984.

His heinous crimes included kidnapping, armed robbery and murder. He was considered so dangerous, authorities tagged him as the No. 1 Most Wanted Man in Cavite.

Nardong Putik became famous for his use of amulets (anting-anting) which he claimed protected him during his encounters with the police.

"Gusto ko ngang ibalik ang Nardong Putik kung saan sumikat ang daddy ko [Ramon Revilla, Sr.]," said Senator Bong.

"Maraming familiar kay Nardong Putik, pero hindi nila alam ang tungkol sa buhay niya. Inaayos na namin kung kakayanin ng schedule ko."

What is his dad’s reaction to his plan to remake Nardong Putik?

"Naiyak siya. Kasi it’s the action film that made him... not only him, but pati kami. Ang angkan ng Revilla, nagsimula ’yan sa Nardong Putik.

"Ito ang parang tribute ko sa tatay ko," Senator Bong said.
