Rodrigo Duterte on phone call from U.S. President Obama: "I'm quite honored."

<p>White House confirms that U.S. President Barack Obama talked to presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte over the phone to congratulate him for his win in the recently concluded national elections.</p>

Kinumpirma ng White House na kinausap ni U.S. President Barack Obama si presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte nitong Martes, May 17, sa pamamagitan ng telepono upang batiin ito sa pagkapanalo niya sa katatapos lang na national election.

Ayon sa official website ng White House: “President Obama spoke by phone today with presumptive President-elect Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines to convey his congratulations.

“President Obama noted that the successful election and record voter participation were emblematic of the Philippines’ vibrant democracy.”

Ayon pa sa statement, ang pag-uusap ng dalawang leader ay sumentro sa magandang relasyon ng dalawang bansa sa loob ng maraming taon.

“The President highlighted the enduring values that underpin our thriving alliance with the Philippines and the longstanding ties between our two peoples, including our shared commitments to democracy, human rights, rule of law, and inclusive economic growth.

“The two leaders affirmed their interest in seeing the relationship continue to grow on the basis of these shared principles.”

Sa iba pang lumabas na ulat, sinabi rin ni Ben Rhodes, ang deputy national adviser ni Obama, na alam nila ang ilan sa mga kontrobersiyang kinasasangkutan ni Duterte at ang mga pahayag nito na naging kontrobersyal, subalit hindi na nag-elaborate si Rhodes, ayon sa Reuters.

Ang sabi pa ni Rhodes, bagong administrasyon ang itatayo sa pagkakahalal kay Duterte at gusto nilang marinig mismo sa kampo ng outgoing Davao City mayor kung ano ang kanilang prayoridad.

"I'M QUITE HONORED." Kinumpirma naman ni Duterte ang pagtawag sa kanya ni Pres. Obama.

Nasa kalagitnaan siya ng interview noon ni Jessica Soho. Panandalian silang huminto para kausapin ni Duterte ang U.S. president, ang ulat sa Unang Balita ng GMA News ngayong Miyerkules, May 18.

“President Obama of the United States called me to extend his best wishes and congratulations, and I assured him that we will continue with our mutual interest and that we are allied with the Western."
