Claudine Barretto and Raymart Santiago file petition for writ of amparo; friends offer “monetary incentive” to any person who can provide complete video of the NAIA Terminal 3 incident

Claudine Barretto and husband Raymart Santiago are still advised not to grant interviews to the press. Nonetheless, their lawyers released a press statement debunking "the video circulating on the Internet" and saying that friends are offering “monetary incentive to anyone who can provide a video documenting the events leading up to the scuffle.”

Nagsumite ng petition for a writ of amparo ang mag-asawang Claudine Barretto at Raymart Santiago sa Quezon City Regional Trial Court, Branch 129, kaninang hapon, May 16.

THE PROCEEDING. Ayon sa sa sc.judiciary.gov.ph, ang petition for a writ of amparo ay isang: “remedy available to any person whose right to life, liberty and security is violated or threatened with violation by an unlawful act or omission of a public official or employee, or of a private individual or entity."

Joanna Marie Raguio, Atty. Ronald Ubaña, at Atty. Jennifer Jimeno-Atienza.

NOT AWARE.

“Well, I asked for time to conduct the cross-examination.

“Kasi as manifested earlier, we have not received a copy of the petition, we have not received any notice from the court na mayro’ng hearing ngayon.

“Ako, nagbakasakali lang ako ngayon dito because someone called me up.

Ani Atty. Borja, “Yes, that’s according to them. But we have to invoke due process.

“Ano ba ang due process? That the respondent has the right to be heard, to be furnished a copy of the petition or complaint.

“So, wala kami no’n.”

FOR PROTECTION.

Ang kumakalat na video, anila, “only represents the tail end of an entire sequence of events—a mere fragment of the full story.”

Kaugnay ng mga naturang video, napagdesisyunan ng mga kaibigan nina Claudine at Raymart na magbigay ng “monetary incentive to anyone who can provide a video documenting the events leading up to the scuffle.”

Makasisiguro raw ang sinumang makapagbigay ng impormasyon na “all the arrangements will be treated with utmost confidentiality and caution.

“Your identities will never be compromised, and as much as possible, personal appearances may not even be necessary.”

PRESS STATEMENT. Jimeno-Atienza:

On behalf of our clients, spouses Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto, we would like to take proactive measures in order to address the alarming distortion of the truth currently misleading the Filipino public. We refer to the video circulating on the Internet, which gives the false impression that our clients and their companions instigated a brawl in NAIA 3 without prior physical provocation.

We would like to state in the most categorical terms that this was not the case. The video represents only the tail-end of an entire sequence of events – a mere fragment of the full story. To form any conclusions on this fleeting video would be highly unfair.

More than fairness, however, there is a need for the entire truth to come out. We have conducted our own investigation, and we know that there is a high probability that a number of people may have taken their own videos, capturing who really delivered the first violent blow. Moreover, it is even more likely that a greater number of them recorded the actual circumstances of how Ms. Barretto was kicked and pushed by a man.

Despite the fact that we are confident that truth will prevail, we recognize that the only way to counter a misleading video is to present a more thorough one. Given the personalities involved, we perfectly understand the fear and hesitation of those who may have in their possession any video of the incident.

As such, several of Raymart and Claudine’s well-meaning friends pitched in among themselves, and are offering a monetary incentive to anyone who can provide a video documenting the events leading up to the scuffle. We assure you that all arrangements will be treated with utmost confidentiality and caution. Your identities will never be compromised, and as much as possible, personal appearances may not even be necessary.
