Martin Nievera in OPM Icons concert at the Arena tonight

Martin Nievera on being a judge on X Factor Philippines: "I don’t know if I’m a good judge, I know that I’m a first-time judge, so I’m asking all of you who’ll watch, have pity on me.

World-class concert artists from various generations will take part in the show including Lea Salonga, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Jose Mari Chan, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Basil Valdez, Freddie Aguilar, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, Juris, Jed Madela, Piolo Pascual, Bamboo, Arnel Pineda, and the singing group, The Company.
“It’s like a dream project for everybody, I think, sa lahat ng mga artista dito sa show na ito.
"Biro mo kasama si Regine, si Zsa-Zsa, Basil Valdez. It’s a dream project for me especially, because I’m dying to perform with Basil—he’s my idol of idols.
“We’re gonna perform tributes to the C’s, Cayabyab, [George] Canseco and [Willy] Cruz—all of their hit songs in one big medley. It’s gonna be great,” ani Martin.
“I feel the same way Richard feels kasi nandiyan yung mga idols ko.
"I don’t know who Richard is referring to, but we’re all drooling when Basil is around.
"Because when you listen to our voices, sa lahat ng mga balladeers, lahat kami may kaunting Basil Valdez na timbre sa mga boses namin.
"From Eric Santos to Martin Nievera to Richard Poon, you name it, all of [us], lahat kami, may timbreng gaya niya.”
Para sa Concert King, isa itong espesyal na show na hindi dapat hindi palagpasin, lalo’t once in a lifetime nga naman na mapagsasama ang mga mahuhusay na singers ng bansa.
“Kasi siyempre pag sinabi mong Maetsro Ryan Cayabyab and the ABS-CBN orchestra, we really should pay tribute to the great composers, to the people who paved the way for singers like myself.
"We do not do it enough, sa ibang concerts, sa ibang mga concert performers, siguro may isang medley. Pero ito, ang buong show for OPM.
"Be it English, Tagalog, rock, pop, any genre. This is one show you cannot miss.
"Miss all the others if you want, pero wag naman ito because everyone is in this show and everything is in this show.”
JUDGE MARTIN ON X FACTOR.
“My hair is standing [on end] just by saying X Factor dahil alam ko yung results, alam ko yung dinaanan as judge.
"I don’t know if I’m a good judge, I know that I’m a first-time judge, so I’m asking all of you who’ll watch, have pity on me.
"I try to be a nice judge, pero ang hirap talaga ng trabaho ng judge, lalo na dito sa Philippines dahil iba ang sense of humor at breaking point ng pikon.
"At [iba ang] pikon ng Pinoy, or Asians for that matter, [compared to] X Factor UK [or] Australia.
"They want us to be a little bit more British, much more sarcastic like Simon na, ’You’re not good, don’t waste our time.’
“I don’t think kaya ng Pinoy ‘yan. I can’t speak for Gary, Charice or Tita Pilita.
"She’s been through David Foster, recording with RNB, hip hop and the rappers of the world, so [she knows] what’s new.
"We’re looking for that X Factor, yung buong package na hindi lang magaling kumanta.
"We’re looking for that certain something na di puwedeng i-define, dun magaling si Charice.
"She knows when she is being fooled, she knows when parang kaboses ni ganito, ni ganyan," ayon kay Martin.
"Alam na alam niya, parang she’s been there, done that and yet she’s so young.
"Tita Pilita on one end, Charice on the other.
"Gary and I are in the middle. So it’s nice to watch X Factor, I hope everybody watches it, June 23 na ang start.
Can you believe that? Siya kasi, she’s always right.”
