Camarines Sur Third District Representative Leni Robredo has been officially proclaimed as the duly-elected vice president of the Philippines.
Held at the plenary hall in Batasang Pambansa today, May 30, the spectators burst into a warm round of applause as Robredo was declared the winner of the vice-presidential race during the May 9 elections with a total of 14,418,817 votes.
Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said, “The results of the canvass show that Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Maria Leonor Gerona Robredo obtained the highest number of votes for president and vice president, respectively.”
Clad in a formal two-toned dress, VP-elect Robredo was warmly congratulated by senators, house representatives, and other spectators who asked for photo-ops with her.
In a thanksgiving mass earlier today, she asked for continued prayers as she faces new challenges ahead.
She said in a brief speech, “Sana po sa araw-araw na gagampanan ko ‘yung aking papel bilang Pangalawang Pangulo, hinding-hindi pa rin kayo magsasawa sa pagbabantay sa akin—yung pagsisigurado lang na hindi ako mawawalay sa tamang landas.”
President-elect Duterte, however, did not attend the proclamation ceremony, saying, “I have never attended any proclamation in my life.”
