Whether completing the nine-day Simbang Gabi or hanging Christmas stockings, we all have family traditions every Christmas.
For celebrities who lead busy lives, their Christmas tradition is simple— spending time with their families.
What better excuse to take a break from work, indeed, than the holidays?
SOLENN HEUSSAFF. The French-Filipino beauty relates, “My dad used to cook the same soup all the time. Tapos it’s really family lang.
“Walang friends, walang cousins. So, immediate family.
“My dad, my mom, my brother, tapos my sister, she’s back in the country para sabay [kaming] lahat sa Christmas.”
Solenn was referring to her older sister Vanessa.
EULA CABALLERO. The Star Factor grand winner who hails from Cebu has to stay in Manila for her work commitments, but her family will be coming to spend time with her.
She says, “Never kaming, sa family namin, hindi puwedeng hindi kami kumpleto sa Christmas Eve.
“Whatever happens, kahit may lakad yung isa, kahit ga’no kaimportante, like ako last year.
“Kailangan talaga ipa-block-off yun kasi tradition namin yun.”
She further relates, “Parang ang top tradition kasi namin sa family, yung sa Sinulog. Kasi I’m a Cebuana.
“So yun yung pinaka-top tradition namin na whatever happens, block off those dates ’cause you have to be there.
“So after Sinulog, our next top tradition na we really have to be at home is Christmas.
“So we really have to come together as a family. Yun lang naman.
“And then just a little gathering— food, drinks and all that with the family, extended family. So ganun lang, simple lang.”
MANILYN REYNES. The 40-year-old actress is happily married to former actor Aljon Jimenez and now has three kids.
On their holiday tradition, she says, “Alam mo, very simple ang family namin. We hear a mass, minsan nakakapag-Simbang Gabi.
“Pero hindi ko naman masasabing everyday talaga. Ganun lang. Pamilya, kain, tapos luluto.
“Kasi sila Mommy’t Daddy ko, nasa Cebu, di ba? Minsan nakakapunta pero for the longest time, hindi.
“So kami lang. Kami-kami lang, actually.”
She affirms that they celebrate Noche Buena on Christmas Eve, “Yes, yes, together. Basta alas dose, nasa bahay ka.
“We see to it na yung New Year ’tsaka Christmas dinner, nasa bahay talaga.
“Ngayon, kung pupunta ka somewhere, pupunta ka sa relative, bukas na ’yan.”
In Manilyn’s family, if you have to visit someone, better do it on Christmas day because you have to be home on the evening of the 24th.
EDGAR ALLAN GUZMAN. The TV5 actor from Pasig will check in at a hotel with his whole family, from Christmas Eve to the 27th.
As a treat for his pamangkins, Edgar Allan will bring them to Disney On Ice at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Christmas Day.
His family’s usual Christmas practice is, “We usually go sa lahat ng father side, mother side. So both families, pumupunta kami dun, pero gabi yun.
“Mass muna kami sa morning tapos afternoon to evening, yun na yung time namin for families naman, both sides. Yun yung tradition namin.”
