Paulo Avelino not intimidated by Kahit Konting Pagtingin co-actor Sam Milby: “Tanggap ko naman na mas guwapo at mas maganda talaga ang katawan niya sa akin.”

Paulo Avelino, Sam Milby, and Angeline Quinto star in ABS-CBN’s latest afternoon soap, Kahit Konting Pagtingin. The “kiligserye,” which is slated to start airing on January 21, features a love triangle that the three actors comprise. Paulo, pitted against hunky actor Sam onscreen, stresses that he sees no competition between them: “Give and take ’yan, e. Kailangan kasi magtulungan kayo sa eksena, hindi kayo nagkakainan

After playing the dark and psychotic Nathan in the primetime hit Walang Hanggan, award-winning actor Paulo Avelino now takes on a “lighter” role in the upcoming ABS-CBN afternoon soap Kahit Konting Pagtingin.

The “kiligserye,” which begins airing on January 21, stars Paulo with Kapamilya hunk Sam Milby and Star Power grand winner Angeline Quinto.

Together, they compose the love triangle of the romantic-comedy.

In a press conference that took place yesterday afternoon, January 9, at Mom and Tina’s Restaurant, Scout Esguerra, Quezon City, Paulo said that he welcomed the character of the “happy-go-lucky” Lance Ledesma.

“When they presented this concept with me and my manager, our team, nagustuhan namin.

“[It’s] something different kasi medyo gusto mo rin mawala sa tao yung mga ‘kasamaan’ na ginawa ni Nathan. Dito naman babawi…”

The 24-year-old actor’s portrayal was remarkable—something he never expected—that even while walking on the street, people call him ’Nathan.’

He is nonetheless not hesitant to move on from the character: “Marami namang chance na gumawa ng mga offbeat roles para sa mga pelikula, sa mga indie.”

NOT INTIMIDATED BY SAM. In Kahit Konting Pagtingin, Paulo and Sam portray brothers Lance and Adam, the handsome and admirable heirs of a family-owned resort.

Angeline, meanwhile, plays Aurora, the hardworking and comedic heroine of the soap.

Inquired about his onscreen chemistry with his two co-actors, Paulo said that their workshop has helped them build a bond.

“Mahirap ’yan pag di kami open sa isa’t isa lalo sa mga eksena. Kumbaga, ang pangit kung may barrier na nakaharang between us.”

Does being cast alongside one of ABS-CBN’s go-to leading men, intimidate Paulo?

Is there competition between the two in acting?

“Well, in terms of acting, ako kasi, give and take ’yan, e. Kailangan kasi magtulungan kayo sa eksena, hindi kayo nagkakainan,” Paulo retorted.

The actor also told that he finds Sam friendly and that they have found things they like in common—gadgets, for instance.

ANGELINE QUINTO. Paulo, on the one hand, finds the candid Angeline Quinto a joy to work with.

He said about the singer-actress, “Wala akong ginawa kung hindi tumawa. Medyo naiilang na ako kakatawa ko, e.

“Pero I find her very fun to be with, very natural pag umarte, masayang kasama on- and off-camera.”

Does Paulo find his leading lady lovable?

The actor replied, “Puwede. Dahil si Angeline, hindi naman mahirap mahalin ’yan, e.

“Ayaw mo bang magmahal ng tao ma patatawanin ka araw-araw, na pasisiyahin ka araw-araw?

“Si Angeline, very down-to-earth, very simple.

"Like sabi ni Sam Milby, kung pa’no mo siya nakikita, ganun din siyang tao.”

FITTING IN ABS-CBN. A year since his transfer from GMA Network to the Kapamilya channel, Paulo admitted that he still has yet to fit in.

“Ako, medyo naninibago pa rin, e.”

He pointed out, “Pagpasok [ko] parang ibang mundo ang ABS-CBN. You’re like on a different earth.

“Napakaraming tao, napakaraming ginagawa.

"Kumbaga, I’m still adjusting kahit isang taon na rin ako sa ABS-CBN.”

Does Paulo feel like he has fit in the family of ABS-CBN yet?

“Family, family, of course. Pero kumbaga, konti pa lang din nakikilala ko, e. Pero everyone I meet, I treat as family.”

Paulo still does not deny that his decision to shift networks was crucial in the success, so far, of his career.

“Binigyan nila ako ng iba-ibang role, they made me play Nathan which is hindi naman karaniwang ginagampanan sa isang teleserye.”

TO CRITIQUES. During the interview, Paulo was also asked to comment on the issue that the actor has apparently become big-headed since gaining recognition.

“Ako naman, I’ve always been the same,” he said.

“I’ve always been quiet, I’ve always been… medyo tahimik lang talaga pero… bilang… medyo… nakikilala na rin ako.

"Kumbaga, napapansin na yung mga ginagawa ko dati na… kung sino ako, napapansin nila.

“Siguro nabibigyan ng ibang meaning.”

TWO MOVIES. Paulo looks forward to 2013 unfolding as he stars in two movies.

He plays the leading man of Jennylyn Mercado and Lovi Poe in Regal Films’s sexy-drama The Bride and The Lover.

Meanwhile, he returns to independent film acting in director Alvin Yapan’s Cinemalaya 2013 entry, Debosyon.

Paulo lastly said, “For 2012, siguro I’m just thankful that I was very blessed, I was given Walang Hanggan.

“And for 2013, siguro, I expect to do more movies [and] more shows with ABS-CBN.

"Kumbaga, another teleserye that … if not [during] daytime, on primetime [again].”
