Growing up, Daniel Padilla never dreamed of having a concert of his own—at least not the kind that would take place at the metro’s major concert venue, the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, where the best of OPM artists have performed.
On April 30, however, the young actor is all set to appear before his legion of young adult fans at the Big Dome, to celebrate his 18th birthday with them via Daniel LIVE: A Birthday Concert.
At the concert’s press conference that took place yesterday, April 11, at the 9501 restaurant of the ABS-CBN Network, Daniel said that he had only dreamed of a concert where he would play with his band, Parking 5.
The teenage heartthrob, whose debut album has already hit double platinum, said that, as of yesterday, he has been taking voice lessons in preparation for the show.
MOCKING. Daniel grew up listening to the rock music of the ‘60s, which to the young actor is defined by the bands Scorpions and Deep Purple.
He never saw himself as a singer despite his passion for music.
Between acting and singing, Daniel would still rather stick to acting.
As he put it, “Pero kung papipiliin ako, ’wag na po.
At the recent Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs songwriting competition, Daniel was among the set of OPM artists asked to interpret the entries.
The pop-sounding ballad “Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat,” written by Jungee Marcelo, has won awards that include Star Records CD Buyer’s Choice and MYX Choice for Best Video.
Daniel’s interpretation of the song has become so popular that naysayers have started mocking the young actor-singer’s voice.
While the Princess and I star generally shrugs naysayers off, he was asked to comment on them at the press conference.
Mag-a-Araneta ba sila?”
With a firm tone, he added, “Sabi ko nga, kasi may mga kapwa ako artista, hindi tiga-dito sa ABS-CBN, na inaasar yung boses ko.
“Gusto ko sabihin, ‘Bakit? Double Platinum ba kayo? Kasi ako, oo, e.’”
PURPOSE. Daniel’s growing popularity, since he starred in the youth-oriented show Growing Up in 2011, has been moving astonishingly fast.
In a matter of two years, the young Padilla—son of Karla Estrada and Rommel Padilla—has earned a strong following through the defunct primetime soap Princess and I, his launching movie with Kathryn Bernardo, a studio album, and his endorsements.
Soon, he adds another milestone in his career with a concert.
Asked to remark on the fame that has come his way, Daniel said, “Para sa akin siguro, ginawa lang ng Diyos para makatulong na ako, kasi wala na akong matutulong sa amin, e.
Although he saw acting as just a job before this, Daniel says he has learned to love it now as a craft.
“Inisip ko no’n, kailangan ko mag-artista pero ngayon nandito na ako, nakikita ko talaga kung pa’no.
“Mas naiintindihan ko at mas minamahal ko yung trabaho ko.”
According to Daniel, the hardships he and his family went through in the past—financial instability being one of them—was a challenge they overcame.
“Talagang naghirap kami before.
