Sa kasagsagan ng selebrasyon ng 4th of July sa Amerika, pumutok din ang balita na inilagay ni Rachel Donaire ang kanyang buhay sa panganib dahil sa pagligtas nito ng isang batang nalulunod sa swimming pool.
Ito ay sa kanila na nasa kabuwanan na si Rachel sa kanyang ipinagbubuntis na panganay nilang anak ng boksingerong si Nonito Donaire Jr.
A MOTHER'S INSTINCT. Sa panayam ng ANC kay Rachel kahapon, July 11, sinabi nito dahil sa "mother’s instinct" kaya niya nagawang iligtas ang batang muntik nang malunod.
Kuwento niya, “The boy was coughing when he came out [of the pool] but I don’t think he was under long enough to, you know, swallow enough where we have to resuscitate him.
"He was so really scared... really scared.”
Ayon naman kay Nonito, “Marami namang tao, it was just maingay talaga, e.
"Lahat ng mga tao they’re screaming, they were having fun, mga ganun, just the water, the fireworks, so di mo talaga marinig.
"For her [Rachel], she’s really aware, the moment that nakita niya yung bata, she got…
"Tumayo kaagad, talagang ang bilis, akala mo talaga siya yung Filipino Flash, e!”
Ang "Filipino Flash" ang moniker ni Nonito bilang isang boksingero.
Kahit siyam na buwang buntis na si Rachel, hindi raw ito nakapigil sa kanya na iligtas ang bata.
Matapos nito, naospital din siya kasama ang iniligtas na bata.
Aniya, “We went to the hospital, and they monitored him and they said he’s fine, he is fine and he’s not under stress.
"But they said I strained a ligament on the right side so it’s like underneath the belly."
RESOLUTION. Last July 7, tatlong mambabatas ang nag-file ng resolusyon sa Kongreso para papurihan ang ginawang kabayanihan ni Rachel.
Ito ay sina Davao Representative Karlo Alexei Nograles, Iloilo Representative Jerry Treñas, at Samar Representative Mel Senen Sarmiento.
Ano ang reaksiyon dito ni Rachel?
Sabi niya, “I just did what I think anyone would do.
"You know, I think that anybody sees another person that's struggling and in... more so a child, you know, in danger, I don’t think that anyone would stop and hesitate [to help].”
Dagdag naman ni Nonito, “I’m really proud of her na kahit ano, ginawa niya lahat... just the instinct of saving someone.”
